Different steppings aren't normally a problem.
Mixing revisions is a bit dicey. You can have mix C0 and CG on a lot of boards, but not B3 and CG or CG and E*. You really need to consult the motherboard's documentation to see what is and isn't compatible.

Update to the latest BIOS from Asus, put the C0 core in CPU0 and hope.
If that doesn't work, buy another CG revision 242.
