Noisiest Component?

Hello All


Out of everyone's experiences, what would you say is the noisiest component in your PC?
 
Easy, the CPU and GPU cooler. Even with a Freezer 64 Pro and NV Silencer, those components remain the loudest. After that I have 7-volted Panaflos and an Antec NeoHE...you can't even hear those
 
i say CPU by far. crappy tech or good tech, a well maintained cpu is gonna be the noiseist usually. the fan on my old duron was a shireker, and the fan on my athalon is just as loud.

Modern GPU fans are pretty loud though, I'd guess, but the one on my 9600XT is pretty silent (or its drowned out by my cPU fan.)

You might want to look into the VC-RE. Not sure if it fits on Epox mounts, but I don't see why not. All chipset cooler should be similar in size, I hope.

The VC-RE makes my chipset fan basically a non-factor. I seriously have to crank it up until I hear it, but I have it running at 2600RPM, and it still gives me ~36C's.
 
I've got a Big Typhoon as my cpu cooler so I'd say my stock 7800GT cooler. I have a VF900 to install in a bit so that may change soon
 
I have 4 fans in a square blowing directly on my SATA HDD's (keeps them at a steady 24*C). The sound of the air rushing past these is insane. It DROWNS OUT the sound of the Thermalright XP90.

However, one thing that did dramatically lower the noise from the PC was drilling out 2 holes in the back where the exhaust fans are. It now allows the air to escape with no resistance and no noise.
 
The Delta on the rad :)


stock, easily the stock 6600gt cooler. When I replaced it with a thermalrightv1, I couldn't hear my pc from 3 feet away.

Yeah I've done the same, using tin snips. Thing is, my damn case is like vibrating at its harmonic resonance...*whiiiiiriiing*

Of course most people can't hear it, but audiophiles who can hear different frequencies will easily be able to hear it. Sucks that I have highly tuned ears, otherwise it'd be perfect.

Learn to play drums. You'll be partially deaf in a week. Believe me, I know plenty of drummers.
 
my psu, i have the antec aria case therefore i have no choice but to use their psu. Everything else has been silenced with aftermarket parts
 
My old 80gb WD w/ non-fdb motor :eek: Silver top! ahh! this thing rings like your ear would after being flashbanged!! This is used as more storage space until I get my parents to buy me a 250gb Samsung to replace it!
 
My waterpump, poor insulation from the case = I can feel the vibes in my keyboard slightly.

Been playin since 5th grade dude. Maybe the ear drums "healed" since I haven't played for years after high school graduation.
 
hehe, I think I'll brag...I have a VF700 running from the GPU header at 25% so it's silent, I was able to unplug the fan on my loud northbridge after some MX-1, I'm running a silent Fluid 92mm Alpine64 and two undervolted fans (80 and 120).
 
7700 at lowest setting.
3x 120mm antec tricools at lowest aren't quiet either.

vf700 is silent.
 
the things that make the most noise in my shuttle are as followed:


Lite on DVD Burner (when reading/writing)
Maxtor Hard Drive When reading/writing




Cooling wise its all dead silent
 
Easily my loudest is the chipset fan on the DFI expert board.

Yep, yep. On my EVGA NF4SLI board it was the NB fan that was the crankiest. I unplugged it so now it's ... really quiet. lol

Then it was my VGA cooler (the VF700Cu) so I plugged it into the 5v connector and shut that thing up.

Then my CPU cooler (the 7700AlCu LED) was the loudest so I plugged that sucker in to a 5v connector and shut it up.

Now the loudest fan in my system is my front 14cm intake fan but the loudest noise maker is now my 36gb Raptor. That thing is annoying (but fast)! lol
 
Small fans = noise. Big fans = less noise. Find some way to use big fans @ lower rpm for same or more airflow and much less noise.
 
Previously it was my Western Digital hard drive WD1600JB... from the noise, I wouldn't be suprised if you told me the bearings were worn down. (Pretty sure its a ball drive, not a fdb)

Pulled that out and now the loudest thing was probably my Zalman CPU fan. The one that looks like a flower. My video card gets a nice normal 80mm fan at 7volts so its not very loud. Passive chipset... slow speed fans for the rest of the system... hard to tell for PSU noise though.
 
My CPU fan has to run at 100% under load, so even a 120mm fan is loud at that point. My 3.0c is a toaster.

My NB fan isn't exactly quiet under full load either. My PC basically goes from near silence to deafening under load.
