On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being extremely loud and annoying), where would you rate the noise level of your computer?

Please say what case and fans you use.
 
3-4 depending on what i'm doing, i have yate-loon high rpm fans, but everything that vibrates in my computer has rubber in between it and the case so vibrations are cut down by a lot so it's really rather silent.
 
I guess 4 - 5 is reasonable, since today Computer Hardware are getting bigger and run hotter. Don't mind the noise as long as they are not something annoying like squeak or a fan make clicking sound. I can't even stand a Computer if it's really quiet if they still make an high up and down noise constantly.
 
I'd say 2-3 for general usage / idle operation. Stressing the CPU would make it a 3-4, and stressing the GPU an 8...

P182 Case with 4x Low RPM Yate Loons, 2x Antec TriCools set to low (the one on my heatsink gets set to medium when stressing the GPU). My GPU though... when it heats up I've got the fan set to change to 70% when it passes 60C... it's loud! But since this only happens during gaming, it's not so big a deal.
 
I guess for some the noise doesn't matter much, can go to 6 - 8 if they are listening to music, watching movie or gaming since you can't hear it much. But 2 - 3 is a must, for me anyway, if web browsing, photo editing, etc. But quiet PC are really awesome once you start to build one. :D

I just put my computer in this case, because the Xclio case gave to me blew big time. even though it had 2 250mm intake fans.

In terms of noise, maybe a 5. Stock fan on a single slot X1950 Pro, and a 60mm. The Yate Loons and the Antec Tricool (medium) are quite quiet.

Annoyance? 0. I need fan noise to tell me my computer's working.

At idle with the fans turned down I can hear my watch ticking on the nightstand across the room(~8 ft). With the fans turned up for gaming or benchmarking I'd say it's about a 5.

7-8 while gaming due to the stock 8800gt hsf. It sounds like the old Evil Knievel wind up motorcycle when I'm gaming.

It's not silent as some people seem to claim the P182 is (my other hardware doesn't matter, I can hear the stock fans on low), but it's certainly quiet enough for me. Turning the top two TriCools to medium takes it to about 5-6, and to high, 6-7. I also have a 750GB Deskstar 7K1000 which is barely audible, mounted in the lower enclosure with the supplied silicone grommets, and a Samsung SH-203B DVD-RW, which is pretty loud with data disks (I'd say it takes the system up to 5-6). If the 8800GTS fan was ramped up to 100% it would take the system to 7-8, but luckily it doesn't; my CPU fan is not temperature controlled and the GPU fan never increases much, so the noise level is pretty constant - arguably easier to ignore?
 
I'd put my current setup as a 2. I have the following noisemakers:

2x 120mm Yate Loons (which got a lot louder when I put them in the case)
Stock HSF for Brisbane X2 3600 (loudest of the bunch in open air, can't hear it inside the case)
HD3850 with stock HSF (can't hear at all after the inital spin-up at boot)
Antec 350W PSU (can't hear that one at all)

The computer is a custom hardwood case buried inside my desk, so that muffles a lot of the sound, but I have to be careful to make sure all the fans aren't mechanically coupled to the case. Otherwise, it acts like a nice speaker box.

or a 1-2 compared to the other systems I'm seeing here.

I've got 5 yate loon fans running at 6v, and a silenced Raptor drive. Measures around 25dba from 3ft. :)
 
Humm, I just turned my fans down to 50% now I can't even hear my computer. Awesome so I'd give it a 1, but normally (@100%) its more like a 3 or 4.

On a coolermaster Cavalier1 with 2 Scythe Slipstreams @1200RPM and one @ 800RPM [120mm of course]
 
3-4, Audible but no trouble to me

While gaming however/Startup its about a 7-8, due to some fans running max speed (or near it)

Gaming noise comes from 2 out of 7 fans, CPU and 8800GTS stock hsf, gets a bit loud like others have mentioned.

Fans:
2 x 120mm Cooler Master silent (~19.3dba)
2x 80mm Stock Apevia fans
1 x CPU (AMD stock for 6000+ X2)
1 x HSF (again stock.)
1 x 120mm PSU fan, not even audible when I'm next to it :rolleyes:
 
I would say an 8-9, I don't mind the noise, I encourage it actually lol

I hear that... I have 3 yate loons @7v and a Seasonic S600, and the only thing I can hear is the Seasonic (old unit, being replaced with an HX620 in 2 weeks). Probably about a 1 compared to other systems here, but a 3-4 to me.
