So I was inspired by the post on the main page the other day about the [H] folding contest and decided to join the [H]orde even though I won't qualify for the competition with the time left. I downloaded and installed the graphical client (v. 5.xx) from the Standord site but have been unable to acquire a work unit. I suspect my finicky Norton Firewall is the culprit, so if anyone has any thoughts about configuring the Norton firewall and/or the Fold client I would be much obliged.

I know of some issues with Norton Firewall and the graphical (and maybe even the console client)..... I'm not sure how to resolve them, as I don't use NF.... but I'm sure someone else here does....

Make sure you take a look in the FAQ stickies... lots to learn... lots of fun.... Welcome to the team!! (make sure you put team 33 in when you configure it!!!)

Check and see if it has a rule set for the F@H executable... it may automatically deny it. I had this issue with a customer, NF automatically blocked Netscape and they couldn't get internet. Stupid NF :mad: .
 
I've got NIS on my computer at home, but I won't be there for another 6 or 7 hours to poke around with it. From what I can remember, depending on your settings you may need a rule to allow it or else it automatically blocks it.

If you go to the listing of all your rules and don't see F@H there, you should be able to browse through your files and just add the executable. then change the permissions to Alway Allow.

I love seeing a post like this...well not that your having problems, but that the contest has acutally helped to bring in traffic. Just remember cheetah, if everything folds out as planned (kekekeke I made a funny), there will be more contets.

Just a quick update: I ditched NIS in favor of ZoneAlarm and everything is working smoothly now. After a hardware upgrade yesterday took my box offline for a while, I've finished my first WU for the [H]orde and garnered 364 points. Thanks for your suggestions and the warm welcome. I'm happy to contribute to the cause.
