No Video - No Boot

The PC has an Intel DQ57TM motherboard, not sure of the CPU, but LGA1156 socket.

Symptoms - when boots two two long beeps followed by another two long beeps - this is a video error beep error.
-No video or bios displayed - won't boot
-Caps and Num Lock work

What I did;

  1. Tried a different monitor
  2. Removed video card, reset CMOS and tried both on board HDMI ports
  3. Tried a different "good" SU
  4. Booted off one stick of RAM (removed 3)

CPU cooler fan is working and never OC'd. Fans spin as expected. I assume either it's a bad motherboard or bad CPU?

My friend has been having very bad luck with hardware lately.

Thanks!

More than likely it's the mobo.

Though you did try an entirely different stick of RAM right?

There were 4 sticks of RAM. I took out 3 and left one in the first slot. Assuming that the probability of bad RAM causing the problem is low, and that of the 4 sticks I left in the one "bad" dimm - I don't think it's the RAM. But you know what? I'll go back and try another dimm just to make certain.

Also, do you think I should use a different PSU with the the new motherboard just in case that damaged the MB? The PSU is labeled Nspire DSA500S. It's rebadged from some other manufacturer. The system builder - Polywell, has other components Nspire branded. I have no idea if it's junk or not. 500W and it does power up the fans.

One more thing - I looked at capacitors. No bulges or anything out of the ordinary.

Just had to ask since I encounted that at work a few days: No video nor boot due to bad RAM.

Yes it is junk. Pick up the Corsair CX430 430W for $40.

I would check PSU, however if your fans are working then its questionable but not out of the question. Mb seems more plausible but check everything before declaring MB failure

do you have another machine to test the GPU in? or is this an i3 machine with integrated graphics? the two beeps if def video issues, wouldn't have anything to do with RAM..... if i remember correctly it signals the board doesn't recognize a external video card. i would test the card before assuming its the board.

Ins0mnyteq, YOU SOLVED THE PROBLEM! I was able to determine what CPU it was - i7-860, which doesn't have a built in GPU. I borrowed a GPU from a working machine and it posted! So a bad GPU was the problem.

Great job! People like you make hardforums a great site!!!!

One more question - re: replacing the GPU. The "bad" card is a Sapphire Radeon HD 4350, 1GB DDR2, PCIE 2.
The OS is Windows 7. Should PCIE 2 DDR3 GPU's be compatible - lower end cards? Never mind...looked at the card's specs.
