No sound when playing DVD's

what dvd program are you running?, are you running this through a reciever or just soundcard and speakers? what soundcard do you have?
 
If can, try Power DVD. It's a great program.

As for WMP 10 be sure to check your sound card's settings, it is probably outputting digital SDPIF out rather than decoding it for analog sound to your PC speakers/headphones.

What sound card are you using?

If you have multichannel sound card . its easy mistake of pluggin into rear channel ... you won't know till u try a DVD. This gets me since I change between a amp/headphone set up and 2.1 speakers often.
 
Your problem is you dont have your audio wire that connects to your dvd to your soundcard plugged in.

Eh?? those wires haven't been used in a long time. I don't have mine connected and dvds play just fine. It's most likely a SPDIF setting as has already been suggested.
 
Shane is right. Lets narow the problem down:

You said you get sound for everything else. So i take it that a ripped CD playback works just like a downloaded one right? If so, it probably isn't a driver malfuncton

The cable shane is refering to is the direct audio cable. Get one, and it should work.
 
Well.. using deductive reasoning.. He can play CD's.. but not DVD's.. so I think he has a problem processing AC3 audio. Hence.. AC3Filter. Wouldn't hurt to try.
