Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
i was looking at the olympus e-volt dslr because i can get a reasonable discount. Soon as i come here, all i see are mainly d50/70 threads and some rebel xt ones. Is there something wrong with olympus?
Canon and Nikon SLR users are the majority of people in this forum, and in the SLR world, so of course you won't find many threads discussing the runners up, like Pentax, Olympus, and Konica-Minolta.
Olympus and, the others are playing catch up. They are new to the DSLR market and, till they prove themselves or get great reviews they wont be seen a whole lot.
When you buy an SLR, you're investing in a lens system. Canon and Nikon have better high end lenses, so in the long run you'll have more options and more flexibility.
With an SLR you will probably end up spending more on lenses than a body itself so why tie your self to Olympus. With Nikon and Canon you can buy a starter camera like a Rebel XT along with even some Canon L Glass and then eventually move up to a 30D or a 5D while using the same lenses.
There are quite a few people with Evolts here, but they are a minority ... go with your guts ... someone has to invest in new technology ... if you're feeling brave, go for it ... Canon and Nikon have more lenses available, but the fourthirds is getting there, the lenses are all very good albeit pricy, ans Sigma just announced 5 lenses for it.
i'm thinking of getting a e-500 myself. Oly makes great cameras, but alas, they are not well known. their system produces some of the most beautiful, natural colors i've ever seen and the dust removal system is another big selling point. their stuff is solidly built with very few reported defects.
oly kit lenses are arguably the best kits available not even considering how incredibly great the price is, however, anything beyond the kit lenses (or any other accessories for that matter) are very expensive and there are not that many in their lineup.
