bountyhunter said:why do athlon 64s run at lower clocks then pentium 4's? because they're different.
anyways, there wasn't a fall refresh at all. If anything, it's a winter refresh, and at best it's possible that it still might be a christmas refresh. But i'm not looking forward to seeing anything until june........
anyways, the x850 pro looks to be a POS
but the x800 and x800xl.........I want one of those

Why do Nvidia cards 6800s series cards run at slower clock speeds than the ATI's x800s?

LOL. I think a refresh for nVidia would be pointless. They already have all the bases covered very well. AGP and PCI cards on every level^eMpTy^ said:I'm kinda upset that there won't be a speed bump...but I guess a new card would have been pointless anyways...I mean, no 30Mhz speed bump? that almost makes logical sense...WTF nvidia? think of the marketing opportunities!! you could make a 6850Ultra!!

Whay would happen with a "refresh" is that the current price of the 6800 would not drop that much so the newer card would have to be more expensive to show people that its something "better"... I'm sick at paying that much for a card that will give you an edge say, 2 or 3 months.......

ati is on .11 for hight end.. and.. well... as you can see... they need a lot of mhz to catch up to nviida.
term.. paper... killing me...
Well, the thing is, there ARE a lot of games that are CPU-limited with even a SINGLE 6800 Ultra.Moloch said:I think nvidia better have something up their sleeve- it's at who has every section of the market, not nvidia
SLI isn't cost effcient, and there's far to little games which aren't cpu limited with it, so the gains are minimal.

If you haven't noticed, we have sort of hit a 'plateau' this year with CPU tech. The year debuted last January with the Pentium 4 at 3.2ghz and the fastest P4 you can buy right now is....3.6ghz. Oooooooh, wow.
Compare to the graphics card wars, though. At the start of 2004, the Radeon 9800XT was still the hot card to get, and nVidia best was the 5950 Ultra. NOW look where we are.
I think nVidia is fine resting on their laurels for the time being. CPU and system tech needs to play a little catch-up with the graphics cards for the next-gen chips to really come out with some punch.

Nvidia either is lying, or isn't up the fight- seriously look at how ati has the market cornered, nvidia is gonna lose even more market if they dont get of their asses!
