THAT IS IT I HAVE HAD IT!!$#^%^%^
scan disk did a nice little auto run on bootup, and when i was finished booting, i found my hard drive that i keep all my digi cam pix on was corupt!
this is the western digital 250 gb drive. not in raid or annything, jsut a internal hard drive.
this drive was purchased last christmas(black friday i believe) and this is that drives replacement, that is right, it failed no more than 3 months after i got it!
i have 5 other hard drives in my desktop all of which dont fail liuke this pos does!
the first WD drive was a 200 gb driv, it was replaced with this sack of shitt 250gb drive.
rant off...

my question is this, how do i kill scan disk and make sure it never runs again?
it always causes me problems when i run it
thanks.

Are you sure it is scan disk that is causing the problems, or the problems that are causing scan disk to run.

im almost positive its scan disk.
sure there may be a bad sector or some cluster is messed up on the drive, but scan disk turns one chunk of bad data into an entire drive/directory of bad data.
i manualy canceled scan disk after i reinstalled my OS tonight, for some reason it wanted to run it on bootup on just my D drive. annyways, so i go to get a glass of water and the computer auto rebooted after a driver finished installing, and before i could get to it, the scan disk began. now i have a file thats found 0001 or some crap like that that has some of the missing files, but nowhere near what was lost. some files completeley just disappeared, i had 6 gb free before the scan disk and now 32 free. and 1gb in the found 0001 file.
what is so dificult about makeing quality hard drives these days?
i have my IBM aptiva 2162S9c 10 gig hard drive to this day. i use it as my OS boot drive.
it has laster 9 years. nowasays drives last months wtf is with this crap?

You use an old IBM 10GB as your boot drive? I can't even begin to imagine how slow that much be. ouch.

I bet the page file is on that disk too. ;)

Nevertheless...backups are a godsend when you need them. Never leave important data stored in one single place.

Sorry, but shit happens.

yep, i got my pics stored online...on dvd and on HD...I just had a hard drive problem with my maxtor...lost alot of data, but nothing important...

If it helps any, my WD 250GB just failed too, but I suspect not due to scandisk. I've had nothing but bad luck with WD, about 5 drives that have gone bad on me. But I guess its all a matter of preference.

could it be excessive heat with 6 drives? I had a dell server that the top drive kept failing every 4 months.. After the 3rd time I moved the drives and spaced them out and havn't had a problem since..

yea i was concerned about heat, but my case temp is always in the mid 80's
and the drive that failed had one of those hard drive coolers(2 fans blowing on it)
