No more matchmaking.

I don't even think piracy is their primary goal. I think what their aim is to make the games a closed platform. With a closed platform, the game companies can lock out modders and map creators. What is the point of this? Look at how big of a cash cow downloadable content has become on the Xbox 360 and PS3. By making mods impossible, they can essentially sell us the same thing the community has been providing for the last few decades through DLC. :(

So you argue that by slowly and further locking out the userbase from making any unique content for the game is a way for us to buy more DLC? I could believe that; it is plausible.

Matchmaking as the primary means of connectivity is still pants-on-head-retarded, though.

Please. For the love of God, stop introducing matchmaking (and matchmaking only) to games.

I just got done playing the Aliens Vs. Predator demo (the new AvP, not the old school classic, obviously) and while the gameplay was fun, nothing was more painful than sitting around with my thumb up my ass waiting for people to join. Luckily, I happened to have 8 friends online at the moment and they all jumped at the demo in half a minute.

Matchmaking is an inferior methodology of connecting to hosted servers and it totally makes or breaks games (for myself, my friends who also complained, etc). When you think about what matchmaking does or how effective any particular matchmaking algorithm (or lack thereof) does, you realize that it is ridiculous.

I realize matchmaking is to make a game console friendly but you can have your cake and eat it, too. xbox360 has ten buttons, green and red for select/back, directional pad to traverse up and down a list, right shoulder to toggle the filter panel, left shoulder to toggle a panel showing friends currently in game/servers (select allows you to join); it's not a very hard UI to bang out. I could do this shit with wxWidgets, qt, gtk+, win32api in like thirty minutes at the most. The best part is that you assign or give an option of just doing matchmaking (equivalent to joining a random server, regardless of ping, players, etc).

Problem fucking solved.

Ditch this bullshit.
I completely agree.
I hate the waiting and no being able to have a choice where I play.
Would it be so hard to have a server/host browser option AND the automatchmaking stuff.
The one game I can recall that had host browsing along with non-dedicated servers was GoW (PC)

I really don't see why its so hard to do what Battlefield 2 or BC2 does in games where they want matchmaking. Both have both in it and work quite well.

I actually like the matchmaking in Warcraft 3. HATE it everywhere else. At least WC3 TRIES to make the games even to some extent.

I would like it if you could actually pick the map you were playing in modern warfare 2

matchmaking could be good, if they give you enough options, and when used with dedicated servers instead of only using matchmaking.

oh yea this really curb that piracy we saw in MW2, oh wait wait

Yes, and if there were no matchmaking, it would be pirated 10x as much.

Lets get rid of the police force because they don't stop all crime.

Your argument is a bad one and shouldn't be used.

explain how matchmaking curbs piracy.

You are aware that IWnet hasn't stopped piracy, hackers, or cheaters?

It just adds another hurdle in order to be successful in piracy. Games that have no form of copy right protection, games that you can install and play without the CD or CD key get pirated so so much because there is nothing preventing one from buying a CD and passing it around. CD keys have stopped a lot of piracy when one tries to play online games. Sure there will be cracked servers but usually those few out there offer a far lesser experience than the legit version that many would be pirates actually cough up the money and buy the game.

Sure piracy in general won't be stopped outright but the harder they make it to do while providing the same experience as a bought version the fewer people who will pirate it.

I am not sure about MW2, if there are cracked servers but I know that it took them a while to get such a solution working if there are any. I am pretty confident that if there are cracked servers, they most certainly can not play with 99% of the players because those 99% are connecting to IWNET. Who wants to play the same people day in and day out? Kind of kills the competitive atmosphere.

wow, 99 percent of your post is useless, i'm being kind by saying that 1 percent, sounds like the same stuff you just regurgitated, man you shouldn't post at all if you're going to post such dreck, if you're not sure, then don't post, wtf.

you talk about cd keys and cd checks, ALL of those are easily bypassed with keygens or cd cracks, so don't talk about them like they actually do something. I'm not endorsing piracy, just stating facts. I personally buy every game I own, cause if it's not worth buying then it's not worth playing.

IWnet is a joke, Infinity Ward said the whole rationale for it was to "eliminate the hackers, the tuners, the modders" and they succeeded on none of those fronts.

Congratulations dude, I have no idea what to say, maybe some actual research would prevent you from looking so uninformed, remember, this is a public forum, everyone here can see how uninformed you are.
