No more highpointers?

I have a machine that is set for big units. It's the only one I have that isn't used for anything else for the vast majority of the time, so it can crank on them all it wants. The past few days, however, I am seeing a serious lack of high point units. I'm sorry, but it is the only indicator I have that it isn't doing big units - I'm not much of a point whore. I just want to know if something changed or I need to make a config change or anything.

I'm still chewing on a pair of 600 pointers on my 12 machines at work. They go in phases of getting large WUs though. I'd say there is nothing to worry about.

I have had a few boxen that could work on bigpackets WU's that haven't gotten them lately. I don't know if they are a bit thin on the ground or what. I'm crunching on two of them right now in my little garden. I believe my work borg got one yesterday, too. There are still some out there.

256 meg of RAM for the normal bigpackets. Well, that and a system fast enough to complete them on time.

My personal requirements are SSE enabled CPUs & 256 meg of RAM. I only have one system that isn't SSE and fast enough to run one on and it's a borg that doesn't get turned on much. So I don't know what it's like on a non-SSE CPU.

Also, you must have 256 meg of usable RAM. If you have integrated video that chews up some of the RAM the client will not report back enough RAM since some of it is being used for vid card functions.

Also, you have to setup in the client the option for WUs > 5 MB since they can be pretty big to send back.

Hmmm, I've got a machine folding, a P3-850, with 255MB of usable ram, because of intergrated video, that constantly grabs 600 pointers. It is running linux, so that might be the differerence.

Some times I will get 600 pointer after 600 pointer but for the most part it seems to go in phases. Right now all I seem to get are 241 pointers and 69.

Oh well as long as it keeps folding.

I haven't done extensive testing on it, I'm just going by Stanford's guidelines for bigpackets and what I have seen the client do.

My desktop is -big wus -advmethods and it keeps pulling 54 and 63pters, the laptop that was pulling down QMDs nicely just pulled a 600pter. But yes, I see the 600s starting to run dry for the moment.

I see lot's of high pointers here, if you build the machine they will come ;)

Sounds like me with fat chicks... no clue where that one came from.

I have some 450 pointer QMDs. On this Xeon box that's all that I get. 450 after 450.

Well, I won't worry aout it, then (not that I *was* worried, just wondering).
Thanks for the info, guys. Of course, now I find out that my entire garden can easily handle these bug WUs. Maybe I'll switch everyone over.

on my main machine and most of the others in my house have run nothing but 600 ptrs for like the last 2 months. in fact i'll be dumping a 600 ptr in about 2 hrs off of my main machine.

Nice of you to share your personal obsessions………and frankly there is nothing wrong with being a chubby chaser…..if your into that sort of thing. ;)

I haven't been seeing a lack of big WU's, although I haven't really gotten many of the 600 pointers.

I'm still getting a ton of QMD's, and lately I've been back in the groove of getting the 364 point gromacs. :D

And does anyone know what the heck happened with the normal, straight laced BillR and who the heck is this impostor!?! ;)

Totally, what happened to our resident Eeyore? Someone has to rain on my parade, and I don't think Mary has the grapes to do it. ;)
