No FOV Control In Far Cry 4 = You Pirated The Game

Back in my day we had these things called "demos", these "demos" let us try a tiny portion of the game to see if it ran well on our PC's, if it had the options we needed in a PC games, and just to see if it was generally any fun.

It's not that simple though. I'm sure if you asked the developers, they might have held off. But you have the publisher and people in the marketing department who make promises the developers have to keep.

Personally I would say the USB black screen bug that prevents the game from loading is plenty rampant to have earned the game a delayed release.

2 out of 3 of the guys at work who bought the game experienced the issue. My only fix was to unplug and remove all drivers for my HOTAS. Poof the game works. Reinstall HOTAS so I can play Elite and poof Far Cry 4 won't boot up again. The other gent had to remove his bluetooth headset dongle and remove all drivers for it.

Can you share the source of the study that supports this ?
Why buy a game when it can be acquired for free ?
Wonder why these people don't sneak into movies during non prime times. Not like you'll be taking anyone seat. Good old sociopath logic applies to everyday situations.

I don't mind if they ruin the experience for people unwilling to pay for it, as long as they don't do it at the expense of paying customers.
I could care less about the pirates and their entitlement mentality. The justifications, the defenders, the "guys claiming it is just for demo purposes. Meh, most of them are full of shit. They are just cheap, and do not want to pay. Don't know why they don't just fess up and go on or just keep quiet.
I used to buy legit, and then just use the crack so I did not have to bother with CD swapping and the usually onerous, and sometimes game breaking DRM. Now I just don't bother with a game that has that shit. Which means I don't buy, or pirate Ubisoft games anymore. Or EA games or pretty much any game that requires more than a single log on to steam.

...Which did not exist yet when pirates swarmed Reddit and Ubisoft forums (and even some here at [H] in the FC4 thread) bitching about things "bugs" in the pirated version and then screaming bloody murder about Ubisoft for #ShitGame #UbisoftLied and the usual bandwagon banter.

Try to imagine it might be frustrating for a developer if they've already got their plate full with legit bugs, they don't need some shitty crack creating all kinds of tantruming about the game, which is what happened with this game.

People are really that fucking braindead these days that they have the nerve to complain about "bugs" on cracked prerelease code.

Sorry I am in the camp of download it first, and if I like it I buy it. Reason being is the last game I paid full price for was Deus Ex: HR had a game breaking bug in it, that resulted from them fixing other bugs, two years and they still have not fixed it. I was so distraught over if I should buy the game or not but decided to treat myself. They have fixed other things but if I want MY bug fixed I need to download a save game editor, start a new game, edit my save to where I was with all my stuff and quests done. Screw that crap.

Also the boss fights in that game were crazy retarded. I cannot pay for a game unless its been out for a LONG time and actually works, oh yeah and the publisher has a good track record.

I frigging hate pirates. The more ways the developers can do to inconvenience these aholes the better.

yea, and then you don't buy it anyway because "hurr durr i have already played it"

My Steam and Origin accounts disagree with you, but feel free to go on pre-ordering shitty betas willy nilly. Wait leme guess you don't have to through your money away cause your mommy and daddy buy them for you right? Hurr durr, lol.

Raise your keyboards if you purchased a game then got the pirated version to avoid the annoyances.
I would raise mine but it's attached to my laptop.
At least DRM today isn't as bad as the dreaded Starforce era. Nothing worse than buying a game and seeing "please insert the original CD" and then your CD rom burner won't burn CD's anymore. I started pirating games for a long while after that kind of BS just so my OS wouldn't get corrupted with debilitating registry keys

This is why I hate stunts like this. On the one hand it is pretty funny that they fuck with pirates. but on the other I fear getting stuck in the crossfire and having to deal with this bullshit on a purchased game. It wouldn't be the first time DRM has backfired and caused grief for an actual customer. And which is more important: giving the paying customer a great experience, or fucking with the pirates?

These days companies seem to be more interested in fucking with pirates than satisfying customers. Between the buggy and sometimes incomplete games, and absurd amount of overpriced DLC, customer satisfaction sure as hell isn't their priority.

I don't have time to deal with finding a working pirated version of a game, or putting up with all the stupid shit that some of these publishers do. So I guess my money just stays in my pocket or goes to somebody who is actually interested in entertaining me instead of expecting me to throw my wallet at them.

Overreact first, ask questions later? :) Seriously this wasn't Ubisoft messing with anyone. This was some of the more clueless members of the piratebay crowd outing themselves by complaining online about a missing feature that legit owners of the game had. Its like robbing a bank, then going back to the bank and complaining that they didn't fill the bag up all the way. Real brain surgeons these guys.

I don't think this is a stunt, they're just making it out to be like one. I'm guessing the pirated version was available before the release version, so presumably the pirated version was some late build copy and everyone who paid for the DVD got that and the day 0 patch changed it. This is not like GTA4 where it randomly (and permanently) gave you drunk walk, or like certain cartridge roms that won't leave the opening sequence. This is Ubi taking credit where no credit is due.

Although I do find it funny when they go post to developer sites asking why feature XX is broken/unavailable.

Haw, totally full of shit

The FOV control didn't work in the release version because IT DIDN'T WORK IN THE RELEASE VERSION, it only worked after the 1.03 patch

Getting sick and tired of Ubisoft lying

Last Ubisoft game I bought was Rayman: Legends, which for some unknown reason would only crash to desktop whenever I tried to start a new game. I never actually got to play it. Now they're like EA games: I just don't pay attention to them.

Back when I built my first 'modern' computer (8800GTX days) I yar'd the original Assassin's Creed just to see how it would run on my new rig. I enjoyed it so much that I purchased it on Steam at full price...and that official version had a bug that wouldn't let me get past the first swan dive off the tower (the game would just not advance and my guy would just stand there forever). Couldn't get a fix for it and after a couple of months I just uninstalled and never bothered playing it again.

I haven't yar'd a game in many years (hell, now I pre-fund the games I want to play: Path of Exile/Star Citizen/etc.), but I've certainly experienced being ripped off by these same companies that complain about piracy - especially Ubisoft.

The only reason why it had this problem was because the original pirated copy came from uplay which was unpatched. The latest pirated copies out there are using the steam version of the game which already has the latest patch. I think the uplay one came out earlier maybe through a preload or something and it was cracked. Like someone else said, the reloaded version out there in the wild doesn't have that problem as its based on the steam version. All the games get cracked on the same day they are released. I don't see why they even try to put protection in at all. Obviously there are smarter people cracking the stuff than there are making the protection at these companies lol. The hackers are more expert than even the developers especially with cracking all these games from all these release groups. 100s of games under one guys belt. Someone should give these guys a job in information security ;)

Some time back there was this game dev sim game that had a 'bug' in pirated copies which wouldn't allow you to win - you would lose so much money from people pirating your published games that you would eventually go broke.

Now that's some poetic irony/justice right there.

Hahahahahaha! I love it when developers do stuff like this.

Some developers, sure, but Ubisoft can seriously go fuck themselves with any of their shitty products for the PC. The end result of this stunt is inconvenience, until a patch/crack comes out... or is it already out eh? lol... and its back to gaming. CLEVER, for 2 whole seconds.

Reminds me of SONY's DRM on their CD's... that required a magik marker around the outer edge to defeat... WOOO HOOO! All that time, and it took them less time and money to defeat it. Grats...now go back and waste your time making a better game. LOL

The pirated version was online last week, prior to the game even being released, you just needed to wait for a patch/crack.

Reading comprehension. There was no stunt. As for Ubisoft's "shitty products", I'd question why someone even bother pirating it then if its so bad. Why waste the bandwidth and space on your SSD, why play it at all?

Oh right, because people are full of shit and are just trying to rationalize stealing software. Any excuse.

Who needs an excuse? I sure dont. I could say its convenient, its free, i dont want to buy from company XYZ...Hell, you could call it a protest against or for anything, but ultimately if i personally choose to do so, i just do so because i want to.

Thats the biggest problem with the internet, people always seem to try to rationalize why someone else does something, Thats for them to decide, call them a thief or piece of shit or whatever, thats your right, tell me im wrong, thats your right, you arent going to change anything but positively reinforce your own belief, which is about all the internet does well.

So have your soap box back, im done with it for now.

I hate ubisoft!
Proceeds to download 45gigs of ubisoft files.
plays the whole fucking game.
Says i hate ubisoft again and again and says i wasnt gonna buy it anyways so its not a potental sale.
Wash rinse repeat on every EA,UBISOFT title that drops.

Some of you are fucking morons. I have a friend that pirates everything even shit he wont play. When i was younger I used to get games from time to time but got tired of cracks and my cpu fucking up so outta not dealing with that, I have purchased all my games from then on.

Protip for not buying shitty games,
Never preload or pre order
Wait 24 hours after the release
Let people buy and test the game for you
Read steam reviews
Sit back and smile that you doged a bullet and you're smart enough to have figured out that its your fault that you buy shitty games.

Why is that so hard to wrap your brain around?

Unbright isn't a word your Royal Brightness.

LOL I knew a lot of people back in the day on the warez sites who would collect games and programs. It was like hoarders. CD roms came out and they would come up with dozens or hundreds of floppy disks they would just copy and throw out after burning to a CD. Now, i know one guy who has 3 CD binders full of crap from the 90's he got like that that i doubt he has even opened up since like 2002 when he got married and moved it all into his basement with his old hardware and electronic stuff.

As for the hilariously vague "Potential Sale" doctrine being spouted around by lawyers... you will never.. ever.. be able to remotely come up with a figure based on that phrase thats anywhere near accurate. Which is a large part of the problem that its allowed in court.

Saying someone was crushed by a falling wall at work and they cannot work anymore, you can easily say, they lost 40k a year, with raises for say 12 years until retirement age, and they lost X amount of dollars, plus the medical fee's which are Y for the copays and weekly biweekly or monthly amount taken out of their checks for insurance, and you come up with Z for the total amount. Then they fuck it all up with "emotional distress" and get vague again.

This is why the phrase.. "The best defense money can buy" is wholly accurate.

I'm from a country where the are almost none consequences to pirating.

I can say that DRM is a PITA, but yes, it does get a lot of people paying for games they otherwise would not.

I have a fairly easy solution to this:
1) wait for the game to be released
2) read reviews
3) really good? buy. On the fence? wait. Do not care? pass.

That sends a better message than pirating IMO. If it's good enough go ahead and give the money to the devs, they earned it. If it's not, just pass.

While I don't condone piracy, or consider this anywhere near to being a valid excuse, the gaming media is dead. No, really, they are about as reliable in their unreliability as a burnt out light bulb. Game reviews are, for the most part 90% bought and paid for B.S.

Shit turn the wayback machine on and you'll see me at the park and rec center in my home town going to the Commodore Owner's Workshop (COW) with my C64 and a couple floppy drives, and while near the entrance they would have discussions on ... I don't know something... at the back where 75% of the people had computers set up all over the place (think LAN parties before LAN existed :D) and we'd have our box(es) of disks out and people would just look through, nice ones asked to make a copy, and everyone swapped quite happily.. and yeah most of it was just a "hmm sure I'll copy that" ... and not everything was commercial games one which had a very non-descriptive name "Commie Bob" for instance ... it still is burned into my head as a WTF is this moment (seriously.. if you're curious, look it up on youtube if you dare...). Bottom line 99% of the disks I had had stuff I would never have bought. Later on when Amiga's became more widespread we went that direction, and always 2 floppy drives so you didn't have to swap disks to copy :) And the guy who set it up, Steve Beale (also worked at the local Sears in the appliance department), after the discussion part... yeah he came back to copy things occasionally too.

If a demo is offered. Many publishers no longer release demos because they are potential lost sales.

No demo, no sale.

Demos do help make sales- I downloaded one of the Batman Arkham demos to use for a benchmark and was impressed with the game dynamics I purchased the full game.
