no firewire on my pc?

I just got something called an "audio interface" that connects to the pc via firewire.
I didn't know there is such a thing. I can't find this type of input on my pc.
googling a bit I found that my options are:
* buy a firewire card that should go on one of my PCI slots
* buy a firewire/USB adapter

I really don't want to put anything on my motherboard right now, and I read the firewire/USB adapter don't work very well...

any other options ?

What "audio interface" do you have?

PCI or PCI express add-on cards are likely going to be your only viable option. What are your machine specifications and OS? maybe someone here can help point out something inexpensive and simple to install and use.

OS: windows XP pro

about the audio interface, i'm not sure, i'll have to ask the friend that gave me it, it says "PreSonus FireStudio" on it

Get a PCI card. Many newer mainboards have FireWire headers, so you can just plug a PCI-shield port in.

I wouldn't get a USB -> Firewire adapter.

Why are you hesitant to install a PCI firewire card?

Get a firewire card from the approved list.

Your motherboard does not appear to have firewire headers onboard, look into ebay item numbers:

200657858143 for PCI-e

120877937035 or 290682491308 for PCI (dirt cheap)

installation should be simple for either type of card. Keep in mind that the above adapters are for firewire 400.
