Nintendo 3DS Coming...

Finally got to play one today. Played SSF4.

OMFG, I was blown away! I really didn't think a small screen would pull off 3d very well but I will eat humble pie. Well done Nintendo. Now when Mario Kart is released and they hit £150 I'll jump.

They're fun little machines. I like mine, don't get me wrong, but I can't help but feel that every launch of a portable from Nintendo is just a paid op-in beta program. GBA to the GBA SP, DS phat to lite/DSi/XL, 3DS to the inevitable refresh.

You do have a point, The refresh will be lighter, more stream lined with probably a better screen.

Well Nintendo makes a significant portion of it's revenue on hardware sells so why wouldn't they encourage people to buy more hardware?

You can see why an early adopter would be pissed, but that's the price you pay. I'm waiting for the refresh.

I really don't understand why you are complaining about the new hardware revisions, they have been doing this forever so it's not as if it's not unexpected.

Definitely true. And I'm definitely not complaining. I love my 3DS, I've had it for just a week now and I've already bought more games for it than I did my DS (never really liked it for some reason).

Still crossing my fingers for an OoT or Starfox 64 Special edition. The fan boy in me would love it too much to pass up.

To play devil's advocate to your point though, just because it's expected doesn't mean it's not complaint worthy.

I was going to get a 3DS and a whole smack of DS games to hold me over until some 3DS games came out that I actually wanted to play - But I've read that the 3DS has a different screen resolution and upscales DS games - and it apparently looks like crud in non-native resolution.

This makes me want to buy a DSi XL now, and wait for a 3DS refresh in like a year or two.

What do you guys think? How do DS games look on the 3DS? Non-native resolution = bad?

I say its non-issue.
Holding down select and start before a DS game starts, enables 1:1 scaling, otherwise it upscales. It seems the increased resolution ratio is the same as the original DS, it scales perfectly with minimal distortion . You will only tell its upscaled when reading small text, and its actually readable, not a blurry mess.

I also have a huge stack of DS games, I was actually in the middle of Golden Sun when I picked up the 3DS. Ironically, I haven't touched one DS game since. Lost interest, The 3DS is that impressive, I wanna see the 3D, I want more Street Fighter, I want, one more race in Ridge Racer. I'm addicted to this thing. I'll go back to Golden Sun, eventually....

I have a 3DS, and the upscaling doesn't bother me at all, it looks just fine. I almost think in some cases it smooths things out a little bit, kindof like what you see when you run emulators on your PC and upscale it to fit your VGA+ displays. I wouldn't worry about it looks fine.

Just to chime in. I don't have an DS games other than Asphalt Urban GT (that launch title from ohh so long ago). And it's definitely not the most visually stunning game for the DS, but I don't notice any problems with upscaling either.

I'm probably going to pick up some DS rpg's to tide me over until Atlus and others start making 3DS rpg's. But yea, definitely agree that it's a non-issue.

Anyone buy the external battery from Nyko? I've been debating getting it. I've yet to run into any battery problems, but I start a new job this summer where I'll be in the air a lot more, and I think I may start to see battery problems then.

Engadget says it's an increase of about 70-80%, which seems kinda small given how large the battery is in comparison.

Are there any other extended battery products on the horizon?

If you pick the right seat on the airplane you should have a power outlet.

If you travel with a laptop you could also get a usb charging cable for the 3DS. The Nyko battery is pretty affordable though, but when I travel I try to reduce all the accessories I have to carry.

I'm waiting for a normal sized battery, official or non. The Nyko one appears to do what advertised, but that huge back just doesn't jive with me.
I like my 3DS to fit in my pocket. All we need now is more games.... June is so far away.

Agreed. I traded in SSF4 and Lego Star Wars for Final Fantasy 3, Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest 4 and The World Ends with You. It's kind of funny that I now only have one 3DS game, Pilotwings :p I just needed some story to my games, it's kind of sad how lacking in story almost all 3DS games are right now.

Do any of you get a yellow tint when using the 3DS camera? I noticed unless I point the 3DS directly at a light source one of the cameras will "adjust" to have an annoying yellow tint. So if I close one eye one picture is awfully yellow and the other is normal. It just looks weird and bothers my eyes when combined since each image is a separate color.

It's a hardware issue, mine has a green tint on the left camera. The shop I brought it from refused to exchange it (the bastards) saying that their test system has worse behaviour, and it's because of a lack of light and the low megapixels lol.

So I've been dealing with Nintendo directly who confirmed it as a hardware issue, and gave me a freepost envelope to send it in to them. If you can, tell your shop that others have had this issue and Nintendo has confirmed it as a hardware problem, hopefully they'll let you exchange it.

I don't know if I'll bother replacing it just yet. I had to send my first one back because I kept getting the "Error has occurred" message. The thing is it works absolutely fine if any amount of daylight is present.

yea dude, buy this thing.
i haven't experienced this issue, but I wouldn't let it put me off from getting one. This toy is awesome.

Wait a few months, if you're really worried.
More than likely, if Nintendo already knows about the issue, they are already fixing or have already. The "older" models will be off the market by then.

Wow, my second 3DS now has the black screen of death ("An error has occurred"). I've never had a problem with a Nintendo console for the past 21 years, and I own just about every single one (yes, even the Virtual Boy).

I'd definitely hold off from buying one a month or two (Wait until Ocaraina of Time is released).

UPDATE: My THIRD 3DS is giving me the same error. I've had it with this damn system. Wait until a 3DS Lite comes out...

I got DOA today. Definitely the best graphics of all the 3DS games I've seen.

Resident Evil & Zelda come out next month. So far I'd say the 3DS is getting a pretty good line up of games relatively quickly. I remember with the PSP, lumines was like the only good game for the first year.

So far I have Street Fighter, Ghost Recon, and DOA.

How is the online?
I orderd DOA from ToysRus, but it wont be here till next week. I'm pretty excited, havent played DOA since DOA4 on Xbox1.

So far the online has been a bit laggy. I couldn't pull off the same moves as in single player. I'd say it felt similar to DOA4 on X360.

Finally got it. Still havent tried online yet, trying to learn the moves.
The game is MASSIVE. The story mode is huge, I didn't realize the amount of story they put in this game, many many cut scenes all with VO work in both japanese and english. Wow I must say I am impressed, I wasn't expecting this much game for 29.99, its a blast.
Better than SSF4? I think so.

Do like.

Yeah its a very complete version of DOA. I like how many extra items you can unlock with this game like character system voices and etc. I hope they continue to delivery extra items over spot pass. The extra costumes so far have mostly been costumes that have appear in previous DOA games so it shouldn't be hard for them to continue delivering more past costumes.

Amazon has a BOGO 50% off deal on 3DS and DS titles. Too bad I already have the games I want.
