Looks like that fancy plastic stuff that you normally find in some 1U chassis.
 
Looks very simualr to the heat sink on the Astaro 220, except i changed the fan so it is very quiet, no more 1.5" ANNOYING loud fan!

I think the CF card that is in there is part of the memory, i could be wrong tho!
 
The memory display is a linux kernel thing. There is 4GB of ram installed on the system but 32bit was loaded. For some reason, Debian gets confused and displays the memory incorrectly. It works fine in 64bit.
 
Hey Jim-

We got untangle running on a spare server we had lying around. We want to test it before purchasing stuff. Any idea why these links are showing up when the web filter blocks a site? It looks weird in firefox, and it looks better in chrome and IE7. Here are some screenshots. Anyway i can get the links removed? Untangle doesn't quite look as "sleek" when these links are pulled up.

We did some research and came up with this..

Solutions:

1. Purchase an application from Untangle, for example the Branding Manager which costs $108.00 per year. This will automatically remove ad's in the Web Filter application and also lets you brand the interface with your own logo etc. This is my recommended method.

2. If your running a test UTM or a small installation at home, you can forcefully remove the advertisements as follows:

a. SSH into your Untangle box.
b. Make a backup copy of the blockpage:

$ cp /usr/share/untangle/web/blockpage/blockpage_template.jspx /usr/share/untangle/web/blockpage/blockpage_template.jspx~

c. Open the block page template:

$ nano -w /usr/share/untangle/web/blockpage/blockpage_template.jspx

d. Scroll to the end of the file and delete this line:

< .. script type="text/javascript" src="http://guide.untangle.com/bp/get-status-3.php?${urlParams}"><!-- --> ... script>

e. Save and exit the file.

Your Untangle block pages will no longer show advertisements at the bottom.

Now, we are just in the testing phase right now, but, once we put these in production at our branch sites, we would buy the untangle products from you, and i would imagine we'd get the support as well. So what were doing here, is basically just a test.
 
The ads, I don't agree with them, but Untangle had to do something to force var's to buy something rather than sticking Untangle free at all their clients.

Don't you think that would force people NOT to buy the software ? Maybe a description of what a *purchased subscription could do * instead of all the adds ?

A description might also bring them more customers, people who get the page ie employees at a company might say hey COOL i can get one of these at home for x amount of dollars and it also does this for my children etc etc ? wouldn't that be a better idea instead of some random junk at the bottom ?

Just a thought.
 
The free version is....free. How many people use AntiVir free antivirus, or AVG free antivirus, or Spiceworks free MSP-ish IT management portal, ...they put up with the ads in that.

I have no problem with the ads that Untangle puts in there on the free version. For one, it's really rarely seen. For two...it comes up when? When someone does something wrong like goes to midgetporngangbang.com (that's Dashpuppys fave site.. :D ) So someone doing something wrong gets punished by an Untangle "blocked" message with some ads on it...no biggie IMO. What do you want to give the person that did something wrong?

If it's being put in a business, as a client of yours, you should be pimping the "pay for" version anyways...get them to upgrade down the road.
 
Exactly. If's their free version, and their free version is pretty awesome. You'll just have to deal with the ads. Untangle did this to discourage MSP's from using Untangle free but charging their clients monthly fee's for using it. If your going to charge your client to use Untangle, it should be a paid for version anyway.

I see what you are getting at now, the paid for apps such as kaspersky is worth it.

i completely understand the ads, lots of free programs use them. I just think if they were going to use ads, they could have done a better job of it. The ads in my screen shot almost appear as malware or something. I didn't realize companies were charging clients for untangle but then just using the free version. That's pretty shitty. I guess it's them "managing" untangle, but we all know you can just leave it untouched forever too.

Anyway, thanks for at least giving us your .02 cents.
