NFSU2 on 6800U = 2FPS!?!?!

I downloaded the demo of NFSU2, and it hardly runs at all. On...

A64 2800+ @ 2.2
KV8 Pro
6800U 430.1110
KHX3200 2-2-2-5

Takes forever to load, and I get like 2FPS. I have tried new drivers, formatting, everything. I really want to buy game, and hoping its a bug in the demo, but I am afraid to spend the cash if the retail game will run like this. Anyone else had this problem?

Try up dating the drivers for your controller if you use one. I had the same problem with NFSU2 and with my thrustmaster Dual Power 2. Took me forever to figure it out that it was my controller.

NFSU2 runs funky on my 6800OC as well.. and i got the retail.. sometimes i get like 80fps.. then 20 fps... :/ but my installation is fooked up :(

turn off light trails and motion blur in the settings
that should speed up things

I wouldn't think you would need to be doing too much visual sacrificing when you have a 6800U....

No, normally you wouldn't. It's possible the game has problems rendering certain effects on a 6800 series card though. Which means the suggestion of turning off those features could make sense and might work.

That's interesting. I bought the full version of Underground 2 and I was getting bad frame rates (although it loaded ok). I have:

Athlon 2800+ Barton (333)
Power Color 9800 pro
1 gig (2x512) Corsair value ram
Shuttle an35n-ultra (nforce2)
80 gig maxtor ata/133
250 gig maxtor ata/133

I had to turn down all the details in order to make it run smoothly. Essentially I had it down to Geforce 2 friendly detail. I found out later that my 80 gig harddrive wasn't seated properly in my drivebay (although the game was installed on my 250 gig). Once I fixed this, the problem went away. It was interesting though because half-life 2 ran just fine while Underground 2 was having this problem. Windows would also lock up on bootup sometimes. It may be a long shot but check your hd connections. Sorry that's all I got.

Do you have a controller? You should really give that a shot because the exact same thing happened to me. 2FPS on my 6800U. Trust me you shouldn't have to turn your setting down with that card. Its a conflict of some sort.

I have the same Mobo, a 3000+ Processor at 2.45ghz, and a 6800U card and I have no problems with NFSU2. Chances are it's some other piece of hardware or a driver causing the problem.

Yeah.. chances are def. in favor of something with your system... I had a Geforce TI 4200 and I got real good frame rates with it.. before I upgraded to my BFG 6800GT... I'd Check my system first...

Oh.. about the HD seating... i don't think thats what was causing your problem... A HD not sitting properly in your case will not cause you trouble with games... or anything else for that matter unless the cable is grounding out... Heck.. I had my 30 gig WD hanging by its cables one time and it still loaded windows and run Half-Life with no problems... lol

weird, it was the controller. I unistalled the drivers and switched to generic gamepad drivers and its running great. 60fps everything maxed. Thanks guys. Picking up the game tomorrow.
