I just got this game last nite (PC Version), and have been playing it non-stop since. This is by far the best racing game i have ever played. And at full detail and 1600x1200 ! ZOMG, it looks purtty ! Anyone else playing this ?

Discuss.......

I played it and won it on the 360. Tough game once you get to the last couple of people on the blacklist. There were a few challenges that required that you rack up an insane amount of $$$ damage or rack up a crazy bounty.
Really good game, though. Much better than NFS: Underground 2. Sadly the next NFS Game (Carbon) looks to be following to UG formula again, though.

yeah, i really hope it doesn't, Cause its lookin like its actually gonna have some Muscle Cars !!! which would be hella tyte ! So heres to hoping for the best !

Yup, its one of the better recent racing games. The car chases with cops are adrenaline pumping.

The only thing I didn't like about it was the catch-up system with the computers, pissed me off several times.

yeah, the getaways are intense. And i totally agree about the catch-up system. Hella retarded. But what can you do. No game is perfect !

edit - except starcraft !

A little behind the times are we? Yes, it was a good game, last year :p

or you could just get over it, and enjoy the game for what it is. Although the catch-up system is annoying, it does help balance the game, the game is already to simple, imagine how easy it would be if they didn't have that catch-up system. Just my opinion !

I'll post my rides if you want.

YES !

My Rides -

Eclipse
Supra
RX-8

I'm only 15% completed with the carrer mode, so i'm doin pretty good so far imo

I'll post pics in a lil bit.

of note...avoid the really expensive "supercars" you unlock toward the end of the game. In reality, they're capped out pretty low, so they can't keep up to modified versions of the cheaper cars.
The best thing to do is save before you race someone on the blacklist and keep re-doing the races until your reward at the end is his car. It's soooo much cheaper to tweak their existing cars than to buy your own and have to buy all of the parts yourself.

I'm #4 on the Black List right now, I plan to get to get the top 3 cars from Ronnie, Bull, and then my BMW...

(If you're wondering how I was able to buy a carrera when I haven't beaten Ronnie yet, I did it through an exploit that I accidently found in the game. It unlocked all parts that Ronnie was linked too)

I had it for my PS2 I played it for months and months. I turned it in later at gamestop for 17 bucks. But it is the most fun racing game I have played.

i finally finished the game on the 360 earlier this week... that last police chase is really crazy. i think this is probably the best game in the need for speed series, maybe the best racing game EVER!

Got to agree with you there... MW and UG2 were stupidly easy compared to earlier NFS games. The last few challenge series races were the only thing in MW that took me more than two attempts...

Any fans of the original GTA should recognise this one :D

'cuase the drag races are exactly that - a drag. eventually I just memorized in incoming cars and pre-empted them being in my lane.

Yeah, Drag Races aren't so much races as "dodge the vehicles we throw in front of you".

And for a game where you're supposed to be avoiding cops and racing illegally... why weren't there any races at night? Cover of darkness and all that.

That stuff aside though, I love the game, and I'm working my way back through to win all the races/bounties I didn't get before I beat Razor.

this is by far, one of the worst racing games i've ever played. sure it's pretty, but it doesn't feel like classic need for speed. it feels just like underground...which sucked.

It is a lot like underground, except that they've replaced some of the blah-blah cars with exotics like Lamborhini, Porsche, and Aston Martin. I was disgusted to see the Eclipse still in the game while the Civic is gone.. In or out, the gutless cars belong together.

Oh, and not being able to exit or restart while a pursuit is in progress sucks bowling balls through drinking straws. Don't tell me what I can and can't do on my PC, you console-programming dweebs.. on the PC we have this thing we do to badly-written programs called Control-Alt-Delete/End Task..

My top car, I just started having to use it on some of the cop milestones.
Those things are just too light for some of the milestones... most roadblocks will bring you to a dead stop in an Elise, while a Viper or a Corvette can plow through them without slowing down :D .

I hated them at first... it seems you've got no choice but to memorise every lane-change.

I didn't figure out until the very last drag race that the whole thing relies entirely on excessive use of the slow-motion feature. The most important thing is that you're not constrained by the "lane" system in slo-mo - you can steer like you would in a normal race. Makes it a lot easier to dodge oncoming traffic on half a second's notice. I think this was their justification for the ridiculous number of blind corners an busy intersections...

Some of them, yeah. But I can usually get through by targeting a spot that's not covered by an SUV. An Elise can still knock a cruiser aside when it hits at 125+ :D Especially if you hit only on an end instead of the center.

I see the Elise's biggest weakness in races and pursuits as snap oversteer. I can avoid it most of the time, but whenever the nose scrapes a wall or something substantial, it just wants to do a total face-plant. Thankfully I've got the Gallardo now, and that's less of a problem. Don't like the Viper or the Corvette.. they're TOO heavy. Don't seem to accelerate as fast, and don't fit with my preferred approaches to corners.

Exactly, luckily, I found out a little earlier then you but the slow-mo is the key

Thanks guys, I never would've beaten JV tonight if I hadn't remembered that little bit of info :D

They seriously distort the handling of the cars in this game. I mean, I don't claim to have ever driven a Viper, but try taking one with default tuning settings through some hairpins in NFSMW, and then try it in Gran Turismo at default settings. There really isn't any snap oversteer in NFSMW, even for my aforementioned Elise, unless you've hit something, or overcorrected (most often on wet ground).

I did try it earlier... but I couldn't figure out why, after pressing left/right to change lanes, I just went head first into the nearest wall...

I don't know what snap oversteer is, but I think I know what you're talking about... and god damn it's annoying  . The slightest tap at a near-zero angle will send you spinning, and you're completely and utterly paralysed until you've rotated exactly 90 degrees. I think this is probably just a horrible bug, rather than a deliberate implementation of snap oversteer - if it were an intended part of the physics model, wouldn't it be caused by other cars, and not just walls?

I found myself using 3 cars toward the end. The Viper was great for any kind of "speed" races where just being faster was the key. Once it was tuned, I think it was likely the best overall car in the game. Handling was tricky because of the rear wheel power, but once you get the hang of it - it's money. The Gallardo was good for courses with lots of turns. I found it handled really well without a learning curve.
One car often overlooked is the 911 Turbo. It's low to the ground and can plow through road blocks better than any of the other cars. It's got a ton of immediate pick up and has a really nice turn radius. It's my car of choice for any of the pursuit missions.
Slow-mo is really only useful for roadblocks IMO. Go into slow-mo and aim for a bumper.
I never found the races to be very hard. As long as your car is tuned, I didn't find the rubber band to be all that bad. There were a lot of AI glitches, so as often as they pass you unfairly, they also get stuck. Use the rear-view to get in their way when they come up from behind you. Even when they're "cheating" they're not hard to force into a wall/corner/traffic. The annoying races for me were the drag races. At the same time, I thought they were fun, too.

Want an easy trick for a free pursuit mission whenever it's offered? Choose the one where you lose the cops in 30 seconds or less. Tell the game to drop you into a pursuit in the middle of downtown. The cop car will actually do a 3-point turn around in front of you All you have to do is t-bone him to kill his car inside of 5 seconds.

I would end up using a fully tuned GTI that I nabbed from Blacklister #15. Top speed wasn't much (186 mph, I think), but it handled almost like it was on rails, and I never really got into any trouble with it until I started "living" at Lvl. 5 heat. And even then I adapted. As far as I'm concerned it was the car for Bounties.

Heh, I'd just do doughnuts until the cop hit me... for some reason it'd always kill the cop car.

I have been playing it on the Xbox, I think I am up to #5 on the most wanted list. I was in a car chase for about 35 minutes the other day, I didn't think it would ever be over, but I finally found a safe spot and ended the chase, man was my heart beating fast after that. I can't imagine what there like at the end of the game.

This thread has just made me put the game back into the 360 :). Thanks guys i thought i finally got away from it lol.

I went into multiplayer for the first time today. Tried some races, mostly unranked, and won more than I lost. One time I took my Gallardo up against a guy who had another Gallardo, but must've been using some custom markers because all his performance bars were maxed (which they're not, if you just buy and add all the Ultimate parts)... I beat him by 10,000+ feet. When the game ended, I wanted to ask what kinda problems he'd had, but didn't because I didn't want to seem like a jerk taunting him. Instead, he accused me of cheating and went offline.

Don't worry about those people. There are a lot of sore losers who play online, but the majority seem pretty cool. It's happened to me in RR6, and NFSMW as well. Last time I played online, I was in my maxed out Ford GT and beat the other people by a mile. It's funny how they couldn't even keep their car on the road, and started accusing me of cheating.

Well, by the time you hit Blacklister #3 or so, you hit Lvl.5 Heat without trying much... which means it's all Heavy SUVs and Vettes.

Mucho fun.
