NFS - Most Wanted

I managed to finish the game while avoiding level 5 heat except for two pursuits (one I evaded about a minute after reaching level 5; the other was the last one). You can meet the milestones while keeping it to level 4 by going for your opponents' pink slips, keeping all their cars that you don't hate, and alternating between them to keep heat levels low. By the end, I needed two to four different cars just to handle pursuit milestones. The Monaro, Cayman S, CLK, McLaren, Viper, and DB9 were all good for chases when highly upgraded (as well as the Elise for some earlier ones where I wasn't getting enough heat to get SUV roadblocks). For races I used mainly light exotics like the Gallardo, Murcielago, and Elise.

I wish there was some way of setting wanted levels on your cars... It's just a pain in the ass that you can only have one car on Lvl 5 at a time. 'Cause once you've spent a while on Lvl 5, the real challenge on lower levels is not losing the cops... I find it nearly impossible on Lvl 1 & 2 short of sitting there doing donuts. I can't even be bothered changing cars any more - it's just too tedious.

It is, my solution was to stop in the middle of the road and just let the heat go up, I wasn't even getting close to getting busted. I start getting serious around heat level 3 and 4

I'd typically head to one of the cop hotbed areas (where 2-3 would chase you at once) and keep ramming their cars, after you take out a few, then take off, but never too fast. You can finally start actually racing away from the cops once the cops in sports cars start to show up. always use the various "destruction points" on the map to your advantage, but only hit 'em if there's at least one cop that's not following directly behind you.
The final trick is the bus depot on the far east side of the map. If you hunt on GameFAQs there's a little info on it. There's a "safe spot" on top of one of the buses that will keep regenerating police and allow you to rack up crazy bonuses. It takes a while and you can't just walk away from the game, but it does eventually work. Too bad I didn't find out about it until I only had one challenge left :p
