Nexus-Jellybean ?

Shit. Screw waiting. Go get it now if you're not already on it. Vicious-Liquid already released the JB ROM for the VZW GNex last night. ;)

Overall I was quite impressed. There was far more added to JB then I figured there would be. Google really hit it out of the park. Especially with things like app delta updates, Google Now, and Project Butter.

Nexus 7 is a game changer in the tablet market. Finally a tablet in a price point I'm willing to pay.

The Google Glass demo was absolutely amazing. I hope Apple was taking notes on how to give an exciting keynote and actually INNOVATE with iOS again.
oh snap thats fast! these threads have exploded over at rootz wiki :D

The new stock Jellybean ROM is really good, but had to go back to CM9 RC1, just like the customization options too much to leave it for now.

Same for the Verizon Nexus.

I really want to try this out, but I just updated to Liquid 1.5 and I think I will miss all the extra functionality of it if I go back to a vanilla JB ROM. Hopefully there will be a good JB ROM with all the extras in the next week or so.
Not sure what the excitement is all about with the JB stuff - the ROMs are based off the Developer PREVIEW from the GNex's they had at I/O. It's not quite "official" as of yet.

I will wait until Liquid has a build based off the official AOSP source of Jellybean.

Hell, I haven't even updated since 1.35 because I don't feel like messing with all of my shit - everything is perfect right now.

I only bothered with this JB preview because I was still on the Feb 4.0.4 leak and there were some nagging issues and was planning on nuking it from orbit yesterday and fresh installing the OTA 4.0.4. Then JB popped up and the community got on it.

Happy me.

Your point? People flash unfinished leaks all the time. Why do people get excited for any beta test? they want to get in on the action as early as possible and are willing to tolerate the flaws. Obviously they know its not "official" considering that even the GSM "official" version doesn't come out for another couple weeks. Most of the people flashing these images are more than capable of recognizing the flaws and flashing back to stable ROMs if they feel they're deal-breakers, so let them have their fun.

So far this seems far beyond preview status. Kinda like MS's track record in the past 3 major releases. Win7, Win8 and Server 2012. They are damn near perfect in alpha state. Good times.

Indeed. In the forums, most people are reporting it to be near 100% functional/stable and are extremely happy with it. I really just want to flash it to see if it's truly lag-free with the "buttery" improvements they've made in 4.1. Not that 4.0+ isn't smooth already, there are occasional jitters; keeping it just behind iOS-smooth, IMO. But I'm more about function over form anyways.

The Buttery UI is amazingly fast. Smooth transitions, animations, new apps that actually seem to fit into the 4.x UI. Really a massive upgrade. I would say like going from 2.x to 4.x. Almost that much of an improvement.

I'm really hoping devs manage to port 4.1 easily; I'd love to see it work its way over to CM9 and get it on my Galaxy S II.

Some people had it running as SDK ports withing 1 hour of it dropping at IO.

I'm with you. People flash it because they can. If it doesn't work the devs fix it or people go back to something stable.

Today I called Verizon and spent yet another hour (bringing my total to about 5 hrs in the last month) on the phone with them about all the recent bullshit. I guess I finally wore them down because they just upgraded me 5 months early and I have a Galaxy Nexus on the way. :D I'm done with none Nexus devices.

My Nexus arrives on Monday. I won't even log in to Google account under ICS. It's getting activated, oem unlocked, and JB being thrown on before I do a damn thing.

It won't hit CM9 until the source code drops. Same with AOKP. Both deal in source and only source.

Wow, did they force you to the share everything plan that they just launched today? I thought yesterday was the last day to keep unlimited data..?

I'd have preferred if Google did this kind of UI optimization much much earlier, like say in Froyo/GB. Responsiveness is a big factor in how users feel, and they should have focused on it much earlier.

wow - i just did a reflash from BAMF rom to AOKP on my Gnexus

Will have to do a backup and flash the Jellybean this evening and play with it. looks to be badass :)

I ran Vicious JellyBean on my VZW Gnex all day, but am restoring my AOKP nandroid right now. I really enjoyed my time with JB, but I miss some of the extra stuff I have come to rely on with AOKP.

So if ROM developers have to wait till source code release, that means when the OTA update comes out mid July ? How long after that until like AOKP has a Jellybean build up and running ? Few days, or few weeks ?

I went back to CM9 RC1 after trying out the stock JB ROM this morning, it was nice and cool features, but can't handle stock ROM's, I miss the features and customizations allowed in custom ROM's.

What did I miss Day 2 at Google I/O ? Anything cool or new announced ?

Wow, did they force you to the share everything plan that they just launched today? I thought yesterday was the last day to keep unlimited data..?

Yes and No. I am on the Share Everything Plan - 6GB version now. It's very chaffing but they were not upgrading ANYBODY before today unless you had like 3-4 weeks left. However, the unlimited voice and text would be welcome (wife and I have relatives that text and only text which pushes us over every month) and I'd deal with the lack of data. My wife uses next to no data as it is so 6GB *should* be enough for me (hopefully).

I basically said I hate losing my unlimited data and it sucks you guys are doing this bullshit. Then I listed all the horseshit they've done in the last few weeks, that they are price gouging on their off contract devices ($650 for the GNex is straight horseshit), that if I could walk away without eating an ETF I would and that my wife and I have been loyal customers for 10 years. So I said I'm just looking for a minor handout to make up for the reaming I've been taking. So I offered up two unlimited plans and a new 2 yr contract for a Galaxy Nexus. They took it.

So yeah I lost my unlimited data, but nothing would prevent them from yanking the unlimited data in the future if I bought off contract either. Plus $600+ for a phone isn't money I have to just throw around (wife, house, 8 month old). So I took the short end of the stick, but made out like a bandit overall. I got a phone that'll run any update to the Android OS until my next upgrade and then I can just move on to whatever Nexus comes out then.

Took the plunge and put Vanialla JB leak onto my nexus.

I must say - the improvements are stark and much more significant than I originally thought.

The new Google Home feature as well as the new voice engine is amazing. It looks like Google is aggregating actual information rather than just web pages and looks at this pool of information when it answers a question. It's basically like having ALL of wikipedia stored in your brain, and you can access any tidbit of info at any second. Amazing.

New notifications are nice - looks much better than original setup.

Project Butter has pretty much brought Android up to (or maybe right below) iOS level smoothness. I haven't really experienced any significant Android UI lag at all.

Can't wait until they release the AOSP code and the devs take a crack at it. Missing some of the Liquid features already. :/

Why would you ever pay $650 for a Nexus off contract when Google is selling them direct unlocked for $350?

I fooled around with Jellybeat on my Verizon Gnex last night -- really cool stuff. The butter smooth project is 100% badass.

Jellybean is a large step in the right direction - advancing the overall Android platform. That being said I did go back to my AOKP ROM because it has lots of the little bells and whistles I love.

I'm sure we will see Jellybean based custom roms here in a week or two - then I'll jump on board and use it as a daily driver. I must say - out of the box with Jellybean, everything "Just worked" and it was a great feeling.

It's sad that the carriers themselves are the ones holding back mass adoption of ice cream sammich and eventually jellybean. I shudder to think a large majority of people out there are still using Froyo or Gingerbread. Extra sad is joe blow doesn't know that all the garbage Verizon, At&t, Sprint put on their phones really detracts from the experience.

To me it's like having a shiny new corvette and then putting a set of spinners, hydraulics, and LED underbody glow kit.

There's a few roms out already that have included JB. AOKP has a strict policy of only building from source however, so yes for them it's going to be July. As far as how long, it depends on what all they need to change. There seems to be several things in JB that makes functions in AOKP redundant, and then there's issues like Nova Launcher which allegedly crash when started, kernel developers that need to make changes and on and on. It's too early to say, especially when no one has the source to look at.

Running Vicious JB on my Verizon Nexus & it is so smooth. Love the new voice features & notification window is a nice improvement. On stock kernel battery life is pretty good. I was using Franco's yesterday, but the batter drain was horrible.

I'm not a fan of custom kernels....seems like there are very few devs out there who know how to do it right and it adversely affects the phone when they do it wrong.

Stock kernel is fine for me.

I don't know about Franco's but Imoseyon has specifically mentioned that his kernel is not for JB as of yet, and there's a newer GPU driver that has to be accounted for too.

I've been using JB for a day now on my Nexus- it's great. Not only are things a bit smoother, but some wifi issues seem to be corrected. The only thing I've notices is that some apps seem to take a bit longer to load, and when using voice recognition it takes a long time (15-20s) to "initialize" before it's ready to go, so if you're just using it to "text Jason i'll see you at 2", you could just type it out faster rather than waiting for the voice recognition to be ready. Google Latitude also didn't work until I removed the preinstalled maps application and re-downloaded maps from the market. Overall it's a great update to ICS and I really like the new notification system.

Voice Recognition is instant for me

There are definitely some bugs with this....but it's a leak build, so it's forgiveable.
