So yeah, I am just cross posting this so everyone here is aware of it. As I am sure, not everyone makes it a habit to read stickies or check the news, but Newegg has neutered the [H] commission.

You guys are late to the party-I boycotted NE a long time ago-but support the message.

Newegg 2012 ytd: 13 orders
Amazon 2012 ytd: 221 orders

I'm scared to see what my amazon order count is..... I know my UPS drivers first name.

I don't know mine, but he's been the same driver in the almost 10 years I've been here. I was going to get him something for Christmas.

I don't know what this is all about. Couldn't follow the links as it gave an error message saying I do not have access. SO... whats wrong with New Egg....

I forget that people do not have GenMay access:

"We are analyzing outbound traffic on our forums as we are going to be putting some new functions into place surrounding Newegg's latest action of cutting our commission link revenue by 66%. (Worth noting is that Newegg did this the week of Black Friday / Cyber Monday with NO communication that this would be happening.) Commission links here are a very real part of getting HardOCP and HardForum content paid for." - Kyle

Classy. Guess I'll just have to cut back on my Newegg purchasing as well. Not that I have purchased much from them anyway. Their Canadian prices aren't very good in comparison to other Canadian online retailers.

newegg blows anyway for a long time now, amazon always get's my money even for PC stuffs.

Not cool at all. [H] should work something out so we can get a discount on Amazon prime :D if that happen newegg can kma

We need to make this hurt. Oldegg's whole rap was that they don't care about us because we are "return customers" and they are wanting the almighty new customer. In other words they think we are going to keep buying their crap out of sheer habit while they fuck Kyle.

In my case they have another thing coming.

Plotting against Newegg because they screwed you up on a business arrangement.
Yeah, that's the way to go. Plus extra prize for burning the bridges.

I'm sure they will come back begging for these millions of dollars of revenue that [H]
was bringing to the table.

not sure if serious

I've only ordered from newegg once or twice a year the past few years. I only order there for oddball items I can't find elsewhere or if there is some overwhelming deal (extremely rare for the 'egg nowadays).

This, main reason I still buy from the egg is because of my free shoprunner sub, replace that with prime and its good riddance.

I buy from Newegg and Amazon. Whoever has the better deal gets the purchase.

Newegg does have an advantage though with their Newegg preferred account and Bill Me Later because I like to take advantage of the 6-12 month same as cash deals they offer. I wish Amazon had the same thing.

Amazon does have the 6-12mo promotional deal-you need to apply for their store card.

Honestly, I prefer to shop at Newegg. They offer combos, they can charge lower prices is because they don't waste as much money on advertising campaigns, and don't throw as much money at fast shipping and other customer service frills. And they also offer unbelievably good deals on combos.

I mean, their site is easier to navigate, and their prices are on average $20-$30 less than Amazon's before you even count in sales tax and shipping. They're just more targeted computer hardware buyers, while Amazon is more oriented towards the average consumer who doesn't price shop.

I mean, this is a nice site and all... but I don't see the logic in paying higher prices for less computer just because some people have had a bad experience with them. It seems like an emotionally-based decision to support a retailer because they support your favorite site.

While I'm sympathetic to that, I think it would be more practical to just send HardOCP money directly. I'm sure that if you shop at elsewhere for the lower prices, and then donate the savings you kept vs. shopping at Amazon, you'd be helping them out just as much as you would shopping at Amazon, and it would probably still be cheaper.

Of course, part of this could be because Amazon charges sales tax in my state... so their deals have to be REALLY good and they have to offer free shipping before they're on par. I shop at Fry's and Microcenter in person now to catch their deals, because they actually do charge $10-$20 less than I see online sometimes.

Any official word on whether or not to continue to use the commissioned buying links as far as NewEgg is concerned?

Instead of a boycott, an e-mail campaign might send a clearer message to NewEgg.

I guess we are buying completely different parts, but over the past couple years, amazon has been regularly cheaper or the same price for every parts purchase that I have made. Also, amazon does ship all orders over $25 for free (when sold and shipped by them and not a third party). I have prime so I get it all faster. As for sales tax, you are required to pay it to your state even if the retailer doesn't collect it....

My understanding is the links will still generate commission, just a lot less than they used to. As for campaigning, this is the third or fourth time in the past 10ish years that new egg has done this, and I've watched the cycle time after time....

What pisses me off, this site contributed seriously to Newegg's early success.

This isn't the first time a conflict has happened between [H] and Newegg. It's simply business and KB and Newegg will hash it out one way or the other. As far as I'm concerned I will buy from the company that gives me the best deal. With that said if it's a tie then I'm going Amazon for a number of reasons.

well newegg burned me for 700+ dollars for an order they never sent me 3 years ago and still haven't payed me back so i was boycotting them already anyways. price wise amazon and newegg are pretty similar, if you see something cheaper on newegg, wait a week and it'll be cheaper on amazon and usually without having to deal with some stupid rebate. only thing newegg is good for at this point is searching for product info, one thing amazon sucks for.

^ search/compare on oldegg (using their bandwidth) buy on amazon

Amazon and Directron.com supported for years now, since NewEgg claimed i never ordered anything from them and they closed my account cause i shipped to aerocasillas.com

was wondering where all the [H]otDEALS stickies for Newegg went. always looking for the best deals but I know I'll be on Amazon more without the [H] deals on Newegg

yeah, i noticed the redirect page strongly suggesting the amazon link for the same product and was kind of annoyed at first, because i didn't know about the referring debacle on neweggs part. now i'm ok with it, i'm sure newegg will be seeing a lot less sales!

edit: although i see that newegg links have not left this page: http://hardforum.com/announcement.php?f=28&a=92

There's probably some dumb-A$$ at NewEgg trying to save a few bucks.

Why did he/she/they do it? Because they can. Just like my dogs lick themselves. Because they can.

Could this change possibly influence my buying habits? You betcha. I'm not going to "boycott" NewEgg or even take the time to write them an e-mail that they would just ignore, but I will start looking for more deals on other sites just based on the feedback here from other members.

Bad doggie!

at least they did something.. the tracking number they gave me 3 years ago still says UPS received the electronic billing notice but it still has never left newegg, UPS tried to help me but newegg stone walled them and me. not to mention newegg purposely dragged their feet to make sure i couldn't contact my bank to get my money back by making bullshit promises. i guess it was partly my fault for actually believing they gave a rats ass about their customers. haven't had a single problem with amazon after almost 200+ orders (physical and digital purchases).

problem with newegg is they got to big for their own britches and something like this is needed to put them back in their place. if they actually think this won't effect their business good fucking luck to them.

If only we could get Amazon to put up a deals link on the [H]ot deals forum... ;)
