Newegg using DHL Now!

No, they don't.

UPS will just dump a package at the door.
USPS will just dump your package at the door.
DHL will just dump your package at the door.
FedEx is the only one that has never done that to me. I have ALWAYS had to sign FedEx packages.

Again why I like DHL, but if the delivery guy at the office has a DHL package going to my home, he'll actually bring it up to the office for me... So I don't have to screw with missed pickups... And that's all without asking.

UPS always makes me sign for packages here. They are much easier to pick up package from around here too. (Fed Ex is a block from UPS, it's their hours, their notifying via phone calls, and letting you pick something up from the side door after hours).

DHL is the Anti-Christ of shipping. I use Amazon as my primary online store, anyway. They've got the best return policy on the web.

I love UPS.Never had a single problem with them. It's untrue that they refuse to leave packages without a signature. Some companies refuse to allow their packages to be delivered without a direct signature. That's entirely due to the company, not UPS.

thats not good, i have had nothing but bad experiences with dhl, they always deliver to my neghbors even after frequent calling

Forgot to mention why I hate DHL.

I ordered one of those cheap Athlon 64s from Dell a few years ago. They were taking weeks and weeks to ship, I ended up ordering a different and canceling the Dell order. Two days later Dell still shipped it, they told me on the phone that it was a mistake and to just refuse shipment.

I left a signed and dated note on the door, telling them I want it returned to sender, DO NOT LEAVE PACKAGE. The asshole DHL guy took my note and left the CPU on my doorstep (and it's not neighborhood to leave packages on steps).

I really don't mind this new policy of Newegg using DHL. I've ordered parts from them a few times since they've enacted the change, and they each arrived right on time.

DHL is enough to make me look at ordering elsewhere first.... So far I am 1 for 9 with them delivering a package to me on time and without huge complications.

Aside from DHL normally delivery days after it was promised or making delivery attempts that never happened, the boxes seem to arrive damaged a lot more then through other carriers. My favorite, leaving a laptop I ordered in the rain when they could have walked another five feet and put it under the porch.

I use Amazon as my primary online store, anyway. They've got the best return policy on the web.

Amazon kicks ass on returns. We bought a giant Dyson sweeper from them over the summer. It ran a couple days and then stopped working. I went online and filed for an RMA. Amazon scheduled a UPS pickup. We put everything back in the box and handed it to the UPS guy. They payed for return shipping (big $$$ on such a large heavy item). I didn't even have to print a shipping label.

One day after we sent the Dyson back a new one arrived. Amazon had cross shipped a new Dyson the second we filed our RMA. There were no extra CC charges or CC holds. This was a $500 item! The replacement was in our hands while our return was still on a UPS truck.

That's an awesome return policy!

Good thing it only costs $4 to ship, you really proved they ripped you off by charging $7. i mean, it is impossible to think that the $3 could easily have covered say, the worker that umpacked and stocked the item, and the worked that pulled from stock and packaged your order. I mean, unreasonable that newegg charged $3 for that!!!! How horrible of them, to actually charge a massive $3 for handling, when they could have easily done, say, $15 like real places that rip you off with shipping charges.

They charge nearly double for shipping what things cost. You mean to tell me a box and packing peanuts as well as the hourly rate of someone spending 2 minutes packing something and using WorldShip to print a label is worth 2x the cost? Get outta here.

They charge roughly $20-25 to ship a PC case. Guess what. I've shipped a P182 for under $15 to NY from MO. What does NewEgg charge? I've been charged $25 to ship the case to me (MO) from TN. 2 states. But they don't charge too much? Considering the volume of shipping they do, I GUARANTEE YOU that they have cheaper rates than the company I work for. If it only costs me $15 to ship a 30lb package ground from MO > NY I bet it costs NewEgg $10 to ship it TN > MO meaning they charged more than double.

I could care less about paying $3 more for shipping and I would have done that if I would have known they were using retarded @$$ DHL for their shipping. OR I would've went to another site like ZZF and bought the items there.

As for UPS not leaving packages that require signature, I've had several like that (repaired 360 was the last one), I leave a note for the driver to leave it at the office down the street or with a neighbor if no one answers and they've done just that.

ouch sounds like bad news
anyone from Cali still get next day delivery with Newegg?

I do like DHL, but for some reason they are always weird on delivery that forces me to go have to pick it up at the depot. Lucky for me the depot is less than 2 miles from my house :D

I ordered some ram on Thursday. As I watch the tracking, I see it was picked up by DHL & delivered to USPS. I guess the mailman will be dropping it off tomorrow. Interesting.

Tracking seems to suck under this new arrangement. I check my tracking info & it was last updated 2 days ago. No idea where it's at at this time.

Here's an update to my little story above: http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1033117961&postcount=21

To briefly summerize: I bought an e7200 from Fry's which shipped on Oct 1st. The Fry's facility is a 2 hour drive from my house in a large metro area. DH-Hell originally had me scheuled for delivery on Friday Oct 3rd. It never arived on Friday. I called Friday night and was assured that it was on a truck and would be delivered Monday. As of 2PM today (Monday) my tracking info hadn't been updated and had a strange entry at the top. I was worried so I called DH-Hell customer service. The CSR spent a lot time typing and then told me the situation would be researched and they would call me back in one hour. They called back exactly one hour later. This time the CSR told me that the driver had been contacted. They supposedly verified that the package was on the truck and they claimed that they told the driver to absolutely positively deliver my package TODAY. The CSR promised that it would happen.

It's now nearly 9PM Monday night. I just got off the phone with another DH-Hell CSR. This rep told me how much she loves Fry's "cause she plays WoW and needs a fast PC." That really made me feel better about my missing e7200. This lovely lady did a lot of typing too. Her keys were just clicking away like crazy! I don't know what she was up to with all of that typing but at the end she said that she had put something "in the system" and that someone from the depot would call me Tuesday morning when they open to "see what's up."

The CSR commented that I'm the third call she's had tonight from my city. "Sumthin' definitely up over there" she said. She also volunteered that they have a lot of problems with drivers in my city. WTF? Fire their non-package delivering asses!

Stay tuned tomorrow for another edge-of-your-seat episode of DH-Hell Theater.

As promised I'm here with another update. No one from DHL ever called me this morning. Rather than deal with DH-Hell again, I decided to call Frys. The CSR listened to my issues, apologized, and said she needed to speak to DHL. About ten minutes later the same Frys rep called me back. She spoke to the head guy the my local DHL depot who assured her that my package was in his hands. They told the Frys rep that a "mechanical failure had prevented it from ever making it onto a truck." The guy promised that it would be delivered today. The Frys rep apologized again and refunded my shipping charge. $6 back!!! That so totally makes up for my time and frustration.

(I have to give Newegg props here. If this had been Newegg I'd be looking at a $25 credit or something equally meaningful.)

Each time I spoke with a DHL CSR over the past four days I have specifically asked if my package was on a truck. I was assured that it was every single time. There was even the exchange on Monday where they claimed to talk to the driver. He supposedly verifyed that my package was on his truck. Today the supervisor told the Frys CSR that my package never even made it onto a truck. DHL has obviously lied somewhere along the line. Sadly, the Frys rep was not at all surprised to hear that I was having big problems with DHL.

DHL has always sucked. I remember they lost my copy of Bleem! back in 1998 and I had to call and bitch up a storm.

DHL rarely makes shipping items a priority. They take their lazy time and still get it wrong half the time.

bleem. jesus, its been 10 years.

i started this thread. i ordered more of the same ram the next morning (no $2.99 speedy handling thing), and checked off the 3 day ups. that came the following day, the original ram (dhl/usps) came 3 days after that, in a padded envelope. i would rather pay the $6 bucks for 1 or 2 days and good packaging. this was the first/only time the free shipping meant dhl. i will read closer (super egg saver) next time.

All my DHL delivers are mangled and delivered improperly / takes forever and tosses on doorstep. It is certainly enough to make me shop elsewhere for anyting even remotely fragile.

I ordered a G11 keyboard. They shipped it by UPS. It was supposed to be delivered yesterday, but UPS "missed the package at the warehouse" and decided to "deliver next business day". Today I received it and here is how it was packed:

The foam peanuts are to "fill the space" not to "protect" the item - I guess.

FedEx > USPS > UPS > ....................................DHL

USPS and FedEx are probably about equal, but USPS has gotten a lot more expensive lately, so I give the edge to FedEx which gives you “free” insurance up to $100.

UPS estimate = a day late.
FedEx estimate = a day early.

:mad:Grrrrrr....I used to get NewEgg deliveries overnight if I ordered before noon, and 2 days if I didn't get the order in by noon. This is my most recent order:

11/4/2008 5:00 PM ET EDISON, NJ, US PICK UP

11/4/2008 6:54 PM ET RUTHERFORD, NJ, US ARRIVAL ORIGIN DHL GLOBAL MAIL FACILITY

11/5/2008 1:25 AM ET RUTHERFORD, NJ, US PROCESSED

11/5/2008 9:33 AM ET RUTHERFORD, NJ, US DEPARTURE ORIGIN DHL GLOBAL MAIL FACILITY

11/6/2008 12:31 AM ET WALPOLE, MA, US ARRIVAL DESTINATION DHL GLOBAL MAIL FACILITY

11/6/2008 5:19 AM ET WALPOLE, MA, US TENDERED TO USPS

It took DHL 14.5 Hours to get my liitle package of RAM through their facility? Really?

They are as efficient as a one-armed moutain climber....today is the 7th and it's still not here btw.....

I had something from Ebay that shipped from Cali on the 4th and it's here on my desk:

11/04/08 1:23am Electronic Shipping Info Received STOCKTON CA 95210

11/04/08 1:23am Processed STOCKTON CA 95213

11/06/08 5:30am Processed BOSTON MA 02205

11/06/08 7:44am Arrival at Unit BOSTON MA 02115

11/06/08 7:45am Delivered BOSTON MA 02115

Seriously: Stockton CA to Boston MA in 2 days
WTF: Edison NJ to Boston MA 3 days(+?)

If NewEgg is saving money shipping with DHL they are going to lose money/customers with the poor delivery service....

The foam peanuts are to "fill the space" not to "protect" the item - I guess.

Pretty common for any shipper. I normally open packages from the bottom, where I find the item and peanuts or paper under it. Meaning that the shipper opened the box, threw the item in and stuffed something on top of it. But .. at least they do put something else in the box, better than having the item bounce around inside the box... but only a little.

My last order from newegg came DHL---> USPS and took a full 7 days. no big deal except the shiping option I chose was UPS Ground. I thought it must have been newegg trying to same some money because everything I ordered came with free shipping..

damnit I love my UPS guy. Now I'm waiting for DHL --> USPS bullshit to get my ram.

this is the case I fear ordering......
DHL SUCKS, they've always sucked, they are always late and slow....

way to go newegg....I normally have newegg deliveries in 2 days. This is one of the main reasons I order from Newegg because I know the shipping is going to be on time and the price within reason. UPS delivers late in the evening where I live so I am even home from work when they show up.....

shame..

This is how my normal TN warehouse shipping looks like from newegg through UPS

11/4 - 10:00am Pickedup
11/4 - 11:00am Arrived at UPS
11/4 - 11:30am Departing UPS
11/5 - 12:30am Arrived at Jackson, MS
11/5 - 01:00am Departing Jackson, MS
11/5 - 07:30am Arrived at Baton Rouge, LA
11/5 - 08:00am Out for Delivery Baton Rouge, LA

And I have my package when I get home from work.

Now DHL on the other hand.... For some reason it's now in Kentucky??? Being handed off to USPS???

How in Gods great name could this possibly be cheaper and more efficient then UPS?

I thought I'd "vent" over in NewEggs forum too (secretly hoping it might help convince them to drop DHL); Looks like they have a lot of Fanboys in their forum....

NewEgg forum Post

Geez, do I really have to start shopping elsewhere...I'd really rather not.

Now that's messed up. Last time I ordered you had to select egg saver. If they are using this in lieu of UPS that's a concern

I've been happy with DHL. Their customer service beats UPS or FedEx, but I will say their speed seems to be a bit slower.

Along with the customer service is the quality of the packaging: UPS has smashed stuff to hell for me (on a good portion of my shipments) and DHL is always great.

Here's how Newegg ships:
3-7 days free egg saver shipping = DHL
Guaranteed 3-day shipping (free or paid) = UPS

I ordered Fallout 3 Thursday night 11/06. I forgot I ordered it until I saw this thread so I checked my front door for a package and nothing.

Here's where my package stands:
11/9/2008 10:49 PM ET WALPOLE, MA, US TENDERED TO USPS
11/9/2008 8:10 PM ET WALPOLE, MA, US ARRIVAL DESTINATION DHL GLOBAL MAIL FACILITY
11/8/2008 10:57 AM ET RUTHERFORD, NJ, US DEPARTURE ORIGIN DHL GLOBAL MAIL FACILITY
11/8/2008 5:05 AM ET RUTHERFORD, NJ, US PROCESSED
11/7/2008 5:44 PM ET RUTHERFORD, NJ, US ARRIVAL ORIGIN DHL GLOBAL MAIL FACILITY
11/7/2008 5:40 PM ET EDISON, NJ, US PICK UP

The best is how long it took to go from Rutherford, NJ to Walpole, MA. That's over 24 hours for a trip that could be made in about 4 hours. What the hell was the DHL driver doing?

I would expect it to be here tomorrow or Wednesday.

DHL can rott in hell...

It took them 2 WEEKS to deliver a set of ram sticks to me... 3-7 day shipping my ass.

That's from NJ to FL btw.

I don't have any problems with DHL

Actually being in Philie and having stuff ship from their NJ warehouse is a godsend so for the amount of time it does take things to ship doesn't really leave much room for screw ups

Then again I have had UPS lose a package and have some others look physically crushed

I think DHL just announce it will only ship internationally now. So I doubt Newegg will be using DHL anymore.

I'm lost at what you are complaining about. I assume u picked 3 day service?
-you ordered 'thursday night' so egg probably got the invoice and package ready on friday(11-7) and sent you, that means it should show up on Wednesday. .....

LOL I think I just heard that DHL was pulling out of the U.S. as of January. Back to UPS shipping for the egg?

I personally love UPS dislike DHL but its still sad to have another company closing down.

I miss the FedEx days. Never had any problems. UPS generally holds the packages for a little while, and I'm so glad I haven't ordered any parts since they were using DHL. I'm a Logistics Manager in the industry, and I used to tell everybody who'd listen to stay the hell away. Their reliability record with me is literally completely bad. 6 shipments, all fucked up, all fucked up MASSIVELY. In ways I don't think FedEx or UPS could recreate even if they tried. Good riddance.
