Wow.. this made my day! :) I'm sure this has happened to some of you guys aswell.

I ordered the C2D E6400 a couple days ago. I came home today and found the package.. Upon digging the CPU out of the foam, I noticed it was E6600 instead of the 6400! w00t!

:D

If Newegg's been good to you I'd say to call them up and say they made a mistake. Its just bad karma not to.

However if i were in that position it would take a lot for me to tell them :D

If it were ZZF or any other company I wouldn't say anything about it...I just love newegg so much i dont want to screw them over like that.

Who knows...maybe they'll let you keep it.

i smell bs there, but if i happened that's fuckin awesome. what week E6600 do you have? i just got an L632B from the egg and it won't go to 3.6ghz without 1.475v :(

They might have you ship it back and give a coupon or something, but more likely they'll just be like "meh, lose another $20 shipping that back and shipping him the right thing".

well they cant 'make' you ship it back :p

Better than what I got, I ordered 2 500GB Seagate 7200.10's in SATA and received the IDE versions, its been nearly 2 weeks now and I am stuck using my old 120GB IBM Deskstar...I want my SATA drives.

Only a crazy person would call Newegg to tell them they screwed up...if I found $200 on the street...would I go to the police? Hellz no!

If you call up and report it to newegg some poor schmoe in the order fulfillment department might lose his job over it. You wouldn't want that to happen would you?

Used to be on the fence on this type of thing, but now I kinda lean towards calling Newegg. They have been damned good to me regarding returns and making things right in the past, and as such I woudl feel obligated to do them the same courtesy.

That's funny. I ordered a E6400 from Newegg on Monday and put it in last night. As I was looking at the box, I was thinking "wouldn't it be cool if they messed up and sent me a 6600?".

My powers made it so for someone apparently... I'll have to work on that.

Are you on the List?

Says it All

One time a few months back i ordered an evga 7900GTX. I got the the 7900GTX and a week later newegg sent me ANOTHER one! I was never billed and i ended up selling it for alittle over 400. I thought i was the luckiest guy ever. I always deal with newegg, and this was the first time anything like that had happened.

Is there no honesty left in this country? If you go to a store, and the clerk gives you a $50 instead of a $5, do you walk out happy?

Hell yeah I do....Then I mumble to myself.."maybe Achmed should learn to count"

Pre-dating SATA drives, I once made a large order to Newegg that included a 120GB HDD (pretty large at the time, around $200-250 I believe) and upon receiving the package I found a 40GB WD and a 120GB WD (the one I had ordered).

Checked the invoice for a screw up on my part (ordering a 40GB HDD for fun) and it wasn't there to be found. Never got charged for it.

I still use it today. It's my goodluck Newegg hard drive.

What I want to know is.. why is it bad karma for not telling them?

Why is it not good karma making up for someone who previously fucked you over?

I view the free 40GB HDD as "life" making up for when someone previously wronged me! :D

I bet if you called they'd have you keep it anyway. The only thing about calling is that it would get someone who processed your order in trouble. So I probably wouldn't do it.

yes i would. I feel guilty about it for a few moments but I've done it. One time I paid for something with a $100 and got $107 in change. Her fault, she should learn to count if she wants to be a cashier.

"It's not about what you deserve, it's about what you negotiate" - unknown

Good lord, I knew I smelled the "Hey I got something better than I ordered" post nazis coming. Shut your hole. I am a very honest person, but I will not give up good fortune to correct someone else's mistake. And when I make a mistake, I own up to it, and freely admit that it was my fault. The only reason is anyone should ever fear getting fired, when their job is being an order picker..IS BECAUSE THEY WILL LOSE THEIR FRICKING DISCOUNT, rofl

It depends if that "poor schmoe" does it too often. What if he starts putting lower end equipment in instead? Heh, I would say let him take his chances.

It happens more often than Newegg would care to admit. I was building a computer for a friend a few weeks ago, I ordered an AM2 Athlon 64 3200+ for him and was sent an Athlon 64 FX instead.

I ordered another Athlon 64 3200+ for his system and kept the Athlon 64 FX. I ate the $60 charge from the first processor and only charged him for the 3200+ (he is very against overclocking for whatever reason, and I didn't want to see such a sweet processor idling at stock speed for the rest of its life).

So in effect, I bought an Athlon FX for $60  Too bad I don't have an AM2 motherboard or DDR2 RAM....Maybe I'll sell it go with a Core2 Duo :p

Newegg is a great company, and there the only one which I would have any inclination to attempt to right a wrong, but you got to figure two things, 1 the guy mite loose his discount/job, and or they may want you to send back the e6600. I don't think they will make you send back the proc and ive even heard of times where they would reward your honesty.

However im the type of person who believes that if you get lucky (as you did), it makes up for a time where you may have gotten ripped off (karma of sorts). But if it were any other company (ZZF, Best buy, circuit city, walmart. etc) i would have no hesitation to keep the excess amount of stuff, its a moral issue, and either way your not wrong.

Keeping a $20 more expensive item is no big deal - you know they'll tell you to keep it, and why should you waste your time to fix their mistake.

But keeping a $400 video card is different - that's crossing the line into unethical behavior if you don't at least call them. You can justify it all you want, but it's basically stealing.

It always amazes me the price people put on their moral code.

Why so quick to call BS? Happens all the time, and I bet you newegg wouldn't even care, they'd say fuck it keep it.

Back in the days, I ordered a hercules profit Kyro II. Shit was unstable as hell, so I returned it and Newegg allowed me to pay the difference on a GF2 Pro, they sent me a GF2 Ultra. Oh hell yes. No way in hell I was going to return it.

And about keeping it, they just don't care. I ordered an evga 7600GT with a $30 rebate, and they didn't give me a rebate slip. So when i called to ask for one, they said screw it and just credited my account $30. Of course I went and got an actual form and filled it out, thereby netting $60 off the price.

I would call them and say they sent the wrong processor, you might get the one you ordered and keep the one you have, but I would rather keep it on the DL and just buy more stuff later as a thank you.

So basicly someone did you a favor and you returned it by fucking them over. You should be proud of yourself. You sold of a bit your integrity for $30, not many people are low enough to sell for so cheap.
