Is there any way to see the negative reviews at the egg? For some reason even if I look at a 2 egg rated item all they show are 5 egg reviews... Hmm...

on top of which some classes of user reviews are next to useless
(PSUs are a prime example)

what are you trying to qualify?

Nothing in general, probably going to be in the market for a new PSU and Case soon, browsing the egg and noticed a 2 Egg item with 5 reviews shown, 3 5 eggs, one 4 and only one 3 which barely said anything negative about the item. very lame.

well drop by the PSU forum with your full config and drop me a PM, I'll give you a hand

there arent many relevant reviews of PSUs
and the standards have changed alot, wattage alone doesnt mean much
and manufacturers employ different baselines to rate the supplies
it all makes for a fine mess :p

Newegg reviews is an oxymoron...they're trying to sell you things, not provide impartial and relevant technical information. There's tons of info under the PSU forum though to help you figure out which ones will work well and which ones will turn your computer into a pile of molten slag even though they're rated for 550W or something.

I think on Newegg users are able to rate items without actually writing a review. Basically just click on how many "eggs" it should get. Don't quote me on this, though.

see I think it somewhere inbetween those rwo
and is context driven, looking for a KVM? the reviews might be very helpful
looking for a PSU? well...

two areas of great confision these days are RAM & PSUs
and reasearch and good advice payoff
in that context user reviews can be misleading, generally leaving pertainent information out

well when it comes to PSUs
even that vast majority of "site" reviews are seriously flawed
the best that can be said is that it powered their rig that day and didnt appear to damage anything.
Possibly useful if you have exactly the same rig, same operating temperatures and are thier next door neighboor on the same power grid :p
(or run a UPS)

there has been a huge switch from the +3.3V\+5V rail powering components to the +12V rail

and massive confusion regarding what watts mean in comparision to amp distribution
since ignorance of the change is commonplace,
and since most people dont consider the PSU an important performance component,
a long list of positive unqualified reviews or ratings just muddies the water IMO

ATX12V v1.2, v1.3, v1.3 hybrid & v2.0 supplies are all still available
choosing the wrong one can actually damage components
and the first criteria most shoppers have is generally price not need

Haha, thanks for all the help guys, actually PSU will be a secondary concern right now. Running a TT "Silent" Purepower 420, silent my ass, but the voltages are stable enough anyways. First need a case to match my monitor, kb and mouse unintentionally my Samsung 997DF, Logitech 518 and newly acquierd Saitek Eclipse match, woot!) that's not going to cost me an arm and leg (read - Lian Li). Looking through the Eggs reviews made it seem like every single case is gods gift to man. Anyone know any places with a good selection of case reviews?

Things have changed at the Egg. I recently wrote a review to warn people that the Sony combo drive I bought wouldn't play DVDs correctly with Power DVD (which was bundled with it) but would with WinDVD. The system was more than adequate hardware wise, P3 600, 384 megs ECC SDRAM, MX400 32 meg DDR PCI card ( I built it for my niece). It would play ripped DVDs across my network using Power DVD with no problems, but it was halting and jerky playing them from the drive. As it shipped with the latest firmware, no help there.

My review has not been posted. And I don't think it will be. I won't be bothering to read them anymore.

I asked myself the same thing.. they don't really post many negative reviews or the filter them or something. I know what ur talking about tho.
