well if the prices of system builder have not come down in 6 months ill might buy from newegg just dont know what thermal grease to get i will not be overclocking my cpu or gpu at all

heres the build i have now on newegg
COOLER MASTER Storm Sniper or maybe a haf x or haf 932
ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366
Intel Core i7-930
CORSAIR XMS3 6GB 1600Mhz
CORSAIR Professional Series AX850
ASUS Xonar DX 7.1
evga GeForce GTX 460 1GB
Western Digital Caviar Black 6Gb/s
2xLITE-ON Black 24X dvd burners
ZALMAN CNPS10X Extreme
coolermaster fans 4x 120mm 1 140mm
fan cables link depot and HD power cables
OS 7 pro 64bit
all for under 2k

i probably dont need the big cpu cooler but i might OC in the furture
Edit/Delete Message

the only question i have is what is the best thermal grease for intel i7 and a zalman cpu cooler or a noctua one also i only need the computer for gaming at resolution of 1360x768x to 1920x1080 and dont need more than 4x aa so i figured that id only need a 460gtx 1gb at most the only game i have to play that i know of right now are guild wars 2 and diablo 3
my current pc is a
dell xps410 8600GTS 256MB vga and a intel Q6600 quad core 2.4Ghz and 2GB ram 375W PSU and i dont think i can play those games

if anyone has any suggestions on that i should change or add that would be helpful
o also its about 500 bucks more on digital storm and i get a 5 year warranty 3 year parts and a 1k watt corsair PSU

You answered many of the questions already, but it would help us help you if you organized your post as per the stickied "answer these questions first" thread.

Also, just to clarify, when will you be building this?

once i get a job and save up enough cash so in like 6 months about
o dam just saw the i7 950 for under 300 bucks thx man ill get that instead of 930
if the 475gtx is out by then ill get that not the 460gtx i believe the 475gtx will be a fully enabled ferrmi 104 if the prices come down even more by then i might be able to get a new tv
i guess im at the wait and see point
just here for input from exp builders and all

In six months from now, I doubt prices for Intel CPUs will drop that much to make them worth buying in light of Sandy Bridge's release in a few months. Just look at the price for the Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad CPUs: They've barely dropped in price since the released of the Core i7 CPUs.

So in other words, that entire setup will be a bad buy in six months from now. Hell even if you were buying that PC today, that setup still wouldn't be a good buy.

Also, you don't need to build a new PC for the two games you mentioned: Just upgrade the video card to the HD 5770 1GB and you'll be set.

i cant upgrade my pc cause its a dell xps 410 with a 375w psu i wound have to do some heavy modification to the case for it to work and dont know how to do that

That Dell should fit the HD 5770 rather well. In addition, that 375W PSU is more than enough for the HD 5770 1GB. No need for heavy modification.

i need a power draw calulator for pc if someone has a link i use rit now is puget system build calulator
o and my motherboard is only pcie 1.0 x16 not 2.0
so it wont work

PCI-E cards are backwards compatible with the PCI-E bus. In other words, it will work. Only if the PCI-E 2.0 card draws more power than what the PCI-E 1.x slot can provide would the card not work.

The worst case scenario here is that the addition of the 5770 could turn the processor into a performance bottleneck. And if you're that worried about the power usage, you could buy a good yet relatively inexpensive PSU like the Antec NEO ECO 520C.

been pretty busy here r the awnsers to the sticky question for the board i live in bravard county florida ill be using the pc for gaming i will not be overclocking and do not need a monitor the places im looking at right now r maingear newegg and digital storm online so far im leaning towards DS but again i will be buying a gaming pc in the next 6 months just dont want to spend more than 2k total out the door i want it to be intel quad core i7 860 or better base with a gefore 460 gtx 1GB stock speed 4GB ram and atleast a 500GB HD

What's the primary resolution will you be using?

Which games are you playing? At what level(s) of visual quality?

i would like to play at 1920x1080 is the max res my samsung 32in lcd tv supports but the min is 1360x768 and the quality is medium or better i dont need more than 2 or 4 AA i turn shadows off if its a options my tv does not support 1680x1050 i play games like guild wars starcraft 2 red alert 3 and halo 2 or crysis not big game like metro 2033 that req alot of gpu power

the games i getting this year r diablo 3 if it come out this year and guild wars 2 those r the only game i must play

for me its about the warranty and maingear i dont know much about it but what it says on the site both maingear and DS are about the same in price about 50 bucks differance i just dont know who has the better warranty and i know you dont want to haver to relie on the warranty so then who build there pc better i guess is my real question when it come to them 2

And again, six months is just too early to start planning a build. A lot can change in six months. Your current planned setup wouldn't be that good of a buy even if you were to buy it today let alone six months from now.

If you want to spend your money wisely, make a build thread when A) you actually have the money and B) when you're 1-2 weeks away from ordering/building/buying the PC/parts. There will be newer and faster parts for the same or lower price in the next six months. I can gurantee you that we won't be recommending either of the two planned setups you've mentioned six months from now.

You're not doing yourself any favor by planning this build six months in advance.

Also, the HD 5770 1GB will work just fine in your system. It'll be a decent stop gap upgrade for six months.

ok thx for tip i do have the cash rit now like 3k and have like 2.5k coming from unimplotment but i have to use it for food and gas and suck so once i get a job hopefuly by jan of next year ill buy at this point cant make my mind up on who to by when the times come DS or maingear

You're thinking too much about it.

Follow Danny's advice: Get the 5770 now for your current system and come see us in about six months when you're ready to build a completely new system.

hardocp should have a tech chat room or something like it iv made alot of post it would be ezer if there was a chat room just a thought

What's the problem? Do you want to build something? Upgrade? What?

Danny Bui (among others) has given you some good advice that you've seemingly ignored thus far. What do you want to do here? What's stopping you?

im pretty much decideing right now what im gona do in under 6 months if prices r good enough i might buy from newegg if not ill buy from maingear or digital storm online im here for
exp builder advice not here cuz im bord or dont know what to do rit now its save 500 buck and buy at newegg or get a worry free pc from a system builder for 500 more than newegg

for me it come down to the warranty who has a better one from the site maingear seems better because it has no at sole discretion crap like DS

iv talk to both companys somewhat on fourms and with sales
like iv said i have the cash now but need it for food and suck waiting for a job

Nah it wouldn't make things easier for these kinds of build threads: chat rooms usually only displays for a user whatever posts/messages were made right after that user logs in. For these kinds of threads, we need to see all past posts to make sure that we're not missing anything or reiterating anything.

From everything I have read you are much better off buying the HD5770 and slapping it into your current machine and using the rest of that money to, you know, eat and pay bills and such, lol. Don't blow money on a PC if you don't have a steady income source especially if you can spend less and still get a decent upgrade. Don't mean to lecture you on how to spend your money but I think in this situation you are just best set for getting an HD5770 now and then waiting for a while and getting other shit settled down before you go and upgrade your whole system. Another upgrade you could do is up to 4GB of ram, but definitely GPU first.

after long and hard thinking iv finally decided on who im buying from and we have a winner
its maingear y cuz there on the east coast like me i live in central florida and DS is in CA plus maingear warranty is a little better the system cost a little more like 100-200 more no big deal hopefuly when i buy late this year or early next price will have come down a bit once i go to buy ill post my build here for any suggestion

Stupid question, but why not wait a little longer... like, when your financial situation gets better?

To me, it makes no sense to focus on a new system if you're still unemployed six months or a year from now.

well just found out guild wars 2 wont be out till late 2011 so i wont be needing a new gaming pc till then so the time frame has change from 4-6 months to almost a year
the dam gamestop site says this year 11/2/10 but thats just a place holder lol owell
thx again for suggestions

so hopefuly the new ati gpus will be out and maybe new nvidia ones aswell one can hope
