Supply and Demand.

If you don't want to pay them, don't buy from them.

Subject: Newegg thread on forums.

Kyle,

I started a thread about newegg in your forums that I would really like the newegg people to see. Do you have a high level contact there that you can send this link to?

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1026640565#post1026640565

My post on page 4, with my proposed solution is what I want them to see.

Thanks,

Greg Dykstra

Did your tinfoil hat bring you to that conclusion? Kyle can't be bought. He's shown that time and again.

1) Over $500 million in revenue last year
2) Over $1 billion this year
3) Over $2 billion next year
4) IPO on the horizon

They are the #6 etailer in the US. This didn't happen overnight.

morley, where can i get this info? Is it on their site somewhere?

to note.. I'm fine with their pricing.. usually they are still competitive...not withstanding the current and just recent high end video card madness. I believe and hope that was just an anonomly.

My biggest beef right now is that their turnaround getting orders out the door have slipped to 24-48 hours instead of same day.

I've made note of this and have sent them an email we'll see what/how they respond.

I've only bought ram through New Egg, They always seem to have good prices on ram.

Think about this for a second.

If newegg gave price breaks based on the amount that you have spent with them, wouldnt that be an economical and very viable way for them to still make plenty of money... yet keep their customer base happy and loyal?

It would make me happy. And I'd stop looking for other places to shop.

umm, yea, never going to happen. though they could do something similar to what dell does and send exclusive coupons to longtime customers. At this point apparently they don't need to.

Well ill tell you one thing, they are still cheaper then most of the vendors on the X800XT-PE, if i didnt get mine on a pre-order for $499 i would buy one from them, there has been times in the past that i paid a little more for some computer parts because they dont pull any bullshit games with shipping, or showing itemns in stock when there not. Ive been buying from them for years and i havnt found another online vendor as good as them.

I just shop at Mwave and ZipZoomFly most of the time. I will buy from newegg if it is just one item or so, if the shipping is free or cheap. Usually if I buy just one item, I go to Zipzoomfly for it, and then to newegg. But if I am going to build an entire machine, I go with Mwave, as their prices are a lot cheaper usually.

i meant new to these forums, which the user ID does denote. And by being new to these forums has no idea how much newegg has been sold here by entusiasts and made newegg what it is today. We were buying way before they had ads in every magazine and fancy web advertisements

Actually my UID on this forum doesn't mean much but thanks for excusing me. I appreciate that. Next time I need to wipe my arse I'll be sure and ask for your permission.

I've been around these forums since pretty close to when they first existed but due to a very long stint of inactivity my original UID was deleted. Again...doesn't matter now does it?

Back to the matter at hand...

If Newegg was 'made what it is today' by enthusiasts that's great. But if you really expect them to remain the same and never change/grow/prosper then you are showing your true ignorance. And just because they 'go corporate' doesn't mean that they need to advertise the hell out of themselves. They're doing just fine the way they are as a lot of the people that have the same claim as you...the "I helped make them who they are"...such as myself...they're turning the companies that they work for onto Newegg because they can save a bundle.

Whatever the case the fact remains...than neither you, me, nor anyone else here truly knows what's going on at/with/of Newegg from an internal perspective. Who knows...maybe they're raising some of their prices because offering such low prices has caught up to them in some form or another.

quit bitching and complaining newegg is still the best overall

price, cs, service, fast shippments

:)

I've noticed that Newegg's prices have slipped some, prompting me to occasionally buy from zipzoomfly or others, but generally on the type of items I buy, they are close and I still cannot fault their service. All my items I've bought except one in the past 6 months have shipped same day, they have taken back several defective items and given me new ones without question and all my email's have been responded to in a prompt manner. I have no complaints, I just need to shop around a little more now instead of taking for granted that they are the lowest price around.

I'm never buying from ZipZoomFly again for one reason: They purposefully lie about their stock status on their webpage.

"In Stock: Ships next day" actually means "We don't have any. But we are getting a shipment of some sometime this week! PRE ORDER NOW!"

Then they set your order to "Packed" so you can't cancel it online.

Wonderful bunch they are.

nah, dont lock... just delete the off-topic ranting flamer posts.

This discussion needs to carry on.

And who deleted my post? I didn't even flame... I just pointed out that zip and newegg are the same thing.. have a cow.. this place can be too uptight sometimes... and the only people that think this is a flame thread are newegg !!!!!!s. This is an awakening that is letting consumers know that they need to do more shopping around as times have changed...

I find myself shopping less and less at newegg. I usually spend abour $6K a year on computer stuff for myself.. It is a hobby you know.

Most of my purchases have been coming from ZZF. I had brought up NE pricing at the beginning of the year, which has steadily increased prior to Xmas of 2003. It was just a matter of time.

TCWO used to be the place to buy your AMD chips for cheap, including a 1 yr warranty. Were dating back to 1999 right now, when even newegg was on the etailer mark, however their prices sucked as did their CS back then. Thompson grew really fast and wouldnt you know it, raised prices. Last month they finally closed shop. If you piss off enough people, they will stop buying from you.

Im sure the business makers of newegg arent stupid. They realize they can profit more, but they are going to have to make up the difference... Kick the enthusiast market to the curb who gave them the free marketing, then persue the big dog corps who write that blank check. Its to bad really, but their is always someone else who will step up and give us what we want.

Remember, this is how Ingram Micro got to where they are today.

Guys, you should notice that the products at newegg are (mostly) available now... at compusa with their great $499 X800XT PEs you can't get one. They're available for "Pickup only" but you can't even buy them from the company that makes the card yet...

This has become a very long pathetic flame. Can we lock this now mod?

actually I dont see any flaming, and yes I read it all
lots of opinion, some of it strong, some of it potentially unfair
but both sides seem equally represented and have eloquent champions

carry on ;)

By flaming, I meant flaming Newegg; they are a business, and cna be expected to act as such. It just sounds like little kids crying because one of their friends grew up and left them. Thats why I called it pathetic.

I am very well aware of how business can and should be run.
In my own business, I treat my existing customers better than my potential customers. The more money they spend with me, the more price breaks and benefits I give them. Perks such as free install, free diagnostics and price point savings that are percentage rated upon how much I've made off them.

It is not unreasonable nor is it "flaming" to ask for such benefits in light of a companies growth.

You do not punish the people that make you what you are. You reward them. This is a very basic business concept.

paradoxical that the low prices and high customer service standards
of an egalitarian model
which drives widespread adoption
leads the early adopters to expect favoritism :p

your arguement isnt very common in a commodities market
its not as if there are set margins across the product selection

Anyone notice the video card prices at newegg recently. Namely the x800's...

They are insane. Not even remotely competitive. Buddy of mine just walked into his local CompUSSR and came out with a x800pro VIVO for $399.

Why are they gouging us?

i didnt bother to read the whole post, but yes newegg is sucking lately, everything highend, you pay a really high mark up with newegg, not only on the video cards, but on other stuff as as well, like the 3500+ 939 processor, it is now back to a good price, but a few days ago, it was really high, even when the shortage stuff was over you could get one from monarch for 345, and new egg had them @ 445 or so. i have spended money on newegg, like you have no idea, but recently two things happened, that have sway me away from newegg, and truly i wont be buying from them as long as i can get stuff from other places.

i bought a sapphire pro vivo, @ the beggining when the cards went out for the first time, and the vivo mod was recent, so i saw that they had it marked clearly pro vivo etc, so i ordered, before my order came i saw that they changed the descreption and took away the vivo stuff, so i though no biggie if its a vivo great if not, i'll just rma it. when i recieved it, it wasnt a pro vivo, so i called to get an rma, i didnt even opened, so when requesting the rma, the lady that was attending me, asked for the reason, and i just told her that the descreption of the card when i had ordered said it was a pro vivo, and she was like :sir we havent changed the description of it" blah, and she was corteous and what not, but she flat out called me a liar, cause i know what i saw.

anyhow so after about 20 minutes on the phone, between her and her supervisor, i got my rma, and i truly think i should have to go thru that.

and two, newegg charges taxes for thing coming to puerto rico, which is cool you know, taxes is the law and i have no problem with it, besides its better to pay the taxes online and forget about than to have the fedex guy with my package and no money to pay him. all cool great, except, that newegg, kept the money for them, and now if i order from newegg, they charge me the taxes, and when my merchandise comes in i have to pay my taxes too again, and to top it off, i am taxed not only for the merchandise price, but my taxes too

when i called up, they basically said they couldnt do shit about it since it was the law, but that they would get everything worked out so the next time i wouldnt have to paid taxes when the merchandise came in...sure no problem, on the next order they screwed me again, for all i care newegg sucks, they have lost some of their touch. probably because they have gotten bigger.

I remember every year or so, someone on hardocp forum would post something bad about newegg

I think it is just another vendor doing that;)

to give newegg a bad name..

I don't think he meant just this forum, but forums everywhere with people like us.

Unless you mean to say that overnight Newegg became a success through no word of mouth and no reviews... If you think it's "horseshit" please explain your opinion, or keep it to yourself.

thanks for your contribution though.

Alright then...since you're so knowledgeable tell me how I am "ignorant"?
Prove it to me. I want to see Newegg's accounting reports, cash flow, current on hand merchandise, merchandise on order, personell accounting, misc. costs as well. If you don't mind. Please...I'm waiting.

I'm not an accountant but I'm intelligent enougn to make my way through them.

Well my two orders placed yesterday shipped the same day.. so I'm happy..

I got a reply back promptly on my email concerning their processing delays. It was a well worded email basically saying that they strive to get every order out in the same day if placed before 3pm EST.

Their high growth has put a strain on their processing but they are working to get the processing back under control by opening new shipping locations and hiring etc..

So no big news really just what happens when you experience sucess and growth...

growing pains.

Lucky you, my stuff is never shipped same day. Even with rush and overnight shipping.
