Newegg and shipping

I've been ordering from amazon and buy.com lately. newegg shipping prices are crazy. its like $20 for shipping on newegg for the UPS battery I ordered and its free on buy.com and amazon and the base price is cheaper too. I just try to avoid newegg now, they are somewhat good for small things like hard drives and other little things. amazon's return policy is freaking awesome.

Their packaging sucks. My last order had $500 of equipment in one box and they did package it correctly so that there was no peanuts between the hardware boxes and the shipping box. Of course UPS beat the box to death so when it arrived the mobo box inside was beat up pretty good. Luckily no damage to the mobo itself.

Fedex does suck. Last time I ordered from them they consistently said I was never at home and never even left a tag on the door leading to the fact that they never came by. Required me to go to their warehouse 25mins away from my house to pick up a package. Total waste.

I like fedex much better then UPS. they seem to handle the packages better.

as for newegg shipping hard drives, i prefer them over zipzoomflys idea of hard drive shipping.

ordered a 500gb and a 320gb hard drive from them on a monday, they didnt ship till the next monday, and didnt get here till that friday after they shipped.

got the drives, took me a week to get the rest of the stuff i needed to build the computers, just to find Both hard drives (one WD one seagate) are making noises and not stable!

went to zipzoomfly to do an RMA, and they have a 15 day rma window!!! so, im stuck with both drives!

going to send the 500gb to seagate, and attempt to send the WD to WD!

in this case its Newegg FTW and zipzoomfly FTL....first time i ordered from ZZF too! :(
You're ignoring the fact that newegg's hard drive packing sucks and you're more likely to receive a damaged drive.

I've purchased about 5 drives from Newegg and none have been damaged or have failed.

Usually I get my items rather quickly, but not this time.

I Ordered two software titles (acronis TI V11 and Office 2007) from the Egg on Aug. 20. Both items had free shipping, both items had a coupon code from a recent newsletter, both items shipped from NJ. I received one item (Acronis) yesterday, Aug. 25th via UPS. The Office software was shipped via DHL and has yet to arrive. Despite being issued a DHL tracking #, I have not had any tracking info available until today.

8/21/2008 6:00 PM ET EDISON, NJ, US PICK UP

This is rather strange they didn't just place both software titles in one box. I had to submit separate orders because of the coupon codes, but still, they were submitted within minutes of each other. Why one was sent UPS and the other via DHL is a mystery.
DHL sucks IMHO.

Looks like you missed the 'ship same day' deadline by quite sometime. And though newegg advertises 3 day shipping, it doesnt mean you will get it in 3 days. Just means once they give it to the carrier they should deliver it within 3 days....

last time i made this post i was told it was impossible because of security cameras, but i wanted to mention a conversation i had with a ups employee. she works at the jacksonville,fl hub and theres a good reason the boxes look the way they do. the goddamn employees kick and throw boxes like a game. she said its rather disturbing to watch...since its the hub where everything i order goes through i try to avoid ups like the plague.

and yeah neweggs shipping is rather crappy as of recent

The Acronis software was actually my second order (had to place two separate orders to use the coupon codes). If I missed some deadline it seems it should affect both orders, especially the second order. Both orders placed within minutes of each other. One went UPS and was delivered yesterday. The other shipped via DHL and so far, all I know is it left NJ. Just seems strange as NewEgg has been beter with shipping in the past.

If you're buying hard drives along with other stuff at Newegg, they'll be shipped in much better packing than you guys are describing for just a bare drive.

(This is as of about a year ago, haven't purchased HD's since then)

I've never had any real problem either with newegg shipping or packing. most stuff gets here the next day, sometimes two or three. I can't ever remember anything ever taking more then 3 days. I've never had a problem with things being packed badly. maybe I've just been lucky. :idk:

Last item I ordered from newegg (780i mobo) came with a quarter of the box crushed, and I saw the UPS guy drop the box in front of my door. The mobo box was crushed in 1 corner, thankfully the clamshell around the mobo was still intact and the mobo was undamaged. If UPS doesn't stop doing this to the packages they deliver, they will have a lot of complaints. If FedEx newegg shipping isn't so expensive, I'd go with them, as I've had nothing but good service from FedEx.

Newegg 2 years ago with fedex was the bomb, the 3 day select shipping or w/e it was called, if it came from NJ (i am in new york) was next day, if it came from Tennessee or CA, then it was 2 days. Same thing when it went to 3 day guaranteed (which meant air), but now with ground shipping, I still get packages from NJ in 1 day, but CA or TN is another story, ass slow.

Once had an RMA to newegg, I sent it to them using USPSes 2-3 day shipping, they send it back to me from CA using UPS ground, and I remeber looking at the tracking number, having the truck go from CA to Kentucky to texas to newark NJ to philly to CT and finally to my distribution hub, and the package was a day late.

This is taking a LOOOONG time with DHL
Latest Update:

8/25/2008 1:12 AM CT DES PLAINES, IL ARRIVAL DESTINATION DHL

I can't believe this. I placed two orders for two software titles within minutes of each other ( see my prior message above.) One order gets UPS shipping and is delivered to my door within two business days. The other? It gets shipped via DHL and is still not even in my state, and both items came from the NJ location! This is the WORST shipping I have ever had from NewEgg. Why they did this to me is really... well, it makes no sense. The way this is going (submitted order Aug. 20) I won't get it until after Labor Day!

I've noticed newegg hasn't been as impressive as usual lately. Seems like packages take longer and longer to get here.

Newegg, why does it take me $11 to ship a medium sized mouse pad and a couple of mouse glides. Seriously this is why right now I'm ordering through a different net merchant.

I still order from newegg but they used to be MUCH better in the past, free shipping on tons of items, low low prices and now the thing I hate the most, they have turned into rebate whores.

People that need to complain about shipping need to take a second and think. Gas prices? anyone? hmmm

Now thats just retarded. I'm sure Kyle and Ratpadz doent pay over 3 bucks on shipping their big padz

I ordered ink for my printer and it took about 4 days to arrive, I was really disappointed with their shipping.

But they do have sales of $1.5 BILLION a year so they must be doing something right.

I must say I have no gripes, I ordered $950 worth of stuff (shipping included) labor day weekend and it arrived on 9/4. Mind you it was labor day, so 9/1 closed. 9/2 both packages shipped and arrived 2 days later. Though I am lucky in the fact that they have a warehouse in NJ and I live in VA so that's not terribly far away. I have ordered thousands of dollars of stuff over the years (since 2001) and only found out about them by word of mouth.

all my stuff came packaged in a large box with a cubic ton of foam peanuts. I just fired up my new baby 2 hours after UPS came twice (apparently they can't figure out how to put 2 packages on one truck for an address). I have always received well packaged items, never has it been inadequate. I am pleased.

Though for some things the shipping is just outrageous. thermal paste 7 dollars to ship, are you kidding me? fans etc. it only helps to buy a lot at a time so the shipping doesn't ding you. Their prices are not very much better than most places nowadays, but they generally have a huge selection and I can trust the customer service to deal with my issues in a quick and courteous manner. Don't forget they have live.com cash back for egg which is only 3% but if you are ordering large ticket items it can negate the shipping somewhat =) . I wish they however honored limited price matching, 30 days might be too long, but at least 7. Kills me to go back and look real quick and see something I just bought dropped $20 the next day.

Looks like newegg teamed up with DHL.. This is a downside. I have ordered a RAM and it took 3 days until the package has left CA.

Don't like this. Next time I will pay extra shipping or will order from some place else.

Last order came DHL with USPS dropoff...who proceeded to ram it in the mailbox. And I thought the $9 per-item shipping and refusal to reasonably pack hard drives was silly.

If I'm paying enough to send each item separately by UPS/Fedex 3-day air, can I please expect not to have it handed off to DHL and/or the USPS?

It depends what your shipping, and which warehouse it ships from. You should feel lucky, a week isn't bad....I puchased a 1200 PSU from a member here and it's stuck on a boat and still isn't here 45 days later. I have been waiting patiently so I can finish up my Dad's rig (he is getting the PSu I have right now).

About 3 years ago it would be I would order online before lunch and could get anything in 3 days.

In the last year it seems that if I order Monday before lunch I can get the item Friday and anything later would come the following week.

My last couple orders have been over a week between when I ordered and when I received so I have noticed a downward trend as far as speed goes.

I don't know if it's just the higher price of gas which is making them cheap out on shipping but it's definitely aggravating and makes me shop around more since other companies can get items to me faster.

That's pretty much my experience, too. The free shipping they offer usually takes about a week to arrive.

I think it is the shipping companies cheaping out, cause I still get stuff in 2 days living not to far away from them.

Maybe so, but how does that explain Newegg using a different shipper than the one I chose at checkout? They have a dropdown where you can pick UPS or Fedex and everything. Somehow, DHL/USPS wasn't on the list...

Very true, I heard someone say that fedex ground can get contracted out, but fedex air you should be safe. That must have just been a mistake on Neweggs part. Online support might be able to help??

It was UPS 3-day air. Maybe it's just a mistake that they handed it off to a cheaper shipping method that wasn't even an option on the list?

Businesses that build up a good reputation have a bad tendency to eventually just coast on it long after they actually deserve it. Newegg seems to be well into that phase.

I wouldn't go that far. I've had shipping issues with them in the past and since they favor ups the fedex shipping is generaly more where other places had it at the same rate or sometimes cheaper.

Also they have yet to learn how to pack hard drives which has caused me issues in the past.

There's a reason I started shopping at GoogleGear (now called ZZF). Heck, ZZF used to offer 2-day air, standard. But over the last couple years, it's about $5-7 for standard shipping. I.e. now ZZF's shipping/processing time is in line with Newegg's 5 years ago. Hopefully ZZF doesn't grow too big, otherwise we'll see the same slow/expensive shipping that Newegg is known for now.

ZZF is nice, I ordered a mobo and hard drive and chose 2 day fedex and it came in 2 days, by fedex. They were by far the lowest price, too. I'm looking at ZZF instead of newegg now for purchases, BUT, newegg's site is way better (advanced search etc)

Yeah, I ordered an AM2 CPU and some RAM... Last Monday at 1:12pm? Selected rush processing and 3 day shipping.

Won't be here until Monday. Wtf newegg.

I ordered a CM590 case from buy.com... BUY.com... and it came with free shipping, and I had it the very next day. Wtf newegg #2.

I have been pleased with Neweggs shipping and prices. I do remember when everything was free FedEx shipping, that was pretty cool.
I ordered my upgrade parts (mobo, cpu, ram, video card) Tuesday night and I got it all on Friday.
I've ordered about $20K worth of computer parts over the years (about $1500 of that is mine since I am poor, lol, rest were builds for clients and friends).

on newegg shipping, WHY does it cost $7-8 to ship one fan or cable ? WTF!!

They dont do it on every item. Its the ebay rip thing. Offer a low price and charge a lot to ship it to try and make the price look lower. Some items they actually calculate shipping cost by zip and weight. My micro flash was 3 bucks to ship on checkout even though it said estimated 5.99. I would also like to mention that I ordered it at like 5:00AM and it is now almost midnight but it still just says "charged"...... looks like I might get it some day.

Newegg shipping for me sucks as well. I feel like I have to wait forever for my product. If I order Monday, it seems like it still doesn't get processed for 2 days.

Newegg's shipping has always been pretty good for me, though I do miss the cheap FedEx shipping they used to have. Most things I order are shipped from the NJ warehouse and come next day or 2nd day via UPS.
