Newbie needs help with it 6274

It might be caused by hardware failures. Try:
Code:
dmesg | tail -n 20
Any error messages?

I have big problems!!!

Now I have made new installations from Ubuntu (three times) because I don´t get FAH tu run.
Don´t ask why - I don´t know!

I have done it once more. Got FAH, thekraken, langouste and tpc.
I can start FAH, but I get p6978.
Stopped FAH, deleted the work-file and start FAH again.
Same preciture again, again and again. Every time I get p6978.
Stopped FAH (close Terminal) and made a pause.
Come back, start htop to see what is running and see this:
http://www.farbeier-rohrmeier.de/bilder/thekraken.jpg
There are 8 Tasks wiht FahCore_a3.exe an about 20 Tasks with thekraken -FahCo.

What the hell have I done??????

Did you configure your client to receive BA?
Is max-packet-size (or whatever its name is -- don't remember off the top of my head) set to "big" ?
Is client-type set to bigadv ?
Are you running off an SMP slot?

Something weird is going there. These 'Z' (Zombie) processes, while harmless, shouldn't be there,
please make sure your client is properly configured; then reboot your system and restart from
scratch please. Start the client and let it fold for 15 minutes. Then check if performance is any
different. Also (after said 15 minutes) capture complete output of:
Code:
ps -L auxw
top -b -n 1
and paste it here or to pastebin.com.

My brain is empty.........

What must I set under:
Additional client parameters ??

I´m really a noob! damn
I´ve given in only -smp -verbosity 9

Give me a chainsaw and I cut my head by myself.....

But next problem.
I´ve installes TPC.
When I give in "sudo tpc -psmax 1" there is no error.
But hardinfo shows for the most cores only a frequency from 1400MHz. Some are at 2200MHz.
What´s now wrong again????????????????

Is there a command for tpc where I can see the real frequency?

Include the flag '-bigadv' and 8101 goodness will be on the way.

When I give in the command: sudo TurionPowerControl -l | grep "pstate 2"
I can see that pstate 1 and pstate 0 are disabled.
But I dont know how to change this!?

Sorry - when I give in "sudo tpc -l"
than I can see that pstate 1 and pstate 0 are disabled.

I remember that I have´nt to disable PowerNow with normal retail chips.
Or must I disable it?

No, CPB/Turbo and PowerNow should be enablet for retail chips, as tear said before at #19

sudo TurionPowerControl -l | grep "pstate 1" should show you the real speed.

I have a Tyan S8812 mobo with 4 x 6272 retail and this command is working on my board after I use the command:

sudo TurionPowerControl -psmax 1

If it do not work, maybe you have to reset the board. I gave some wrong commands, but after I reset the board everything was back to normal again.

It was CPB in the BIOS.
Since I have the machine and fold with it, I never go back to BIOS and made any changes.
This is a miracle!

Thank you alias !!!

The pleasure is entirely mine alone!

Thank you tear I will say, it is him that know all this wonderful secrets.:D

But I also have a problem, DLB is some times missing on my 6272 rig. Is there anyway to force it to stay on all the time? The different in TPF is about 20 - 25 sec On or Off.

Here my next problem!
Can you see here something wrong?
fah is standing and do nothing.
p8102 is ready and p6901 is here. But nothing happens.

If you are using langouste is this normal. Langouste is uploading the 8102 WU in the other window, and you will see it in statistics on Stanford after the hour you are in has passed.

Here is what I got when I try to restart the client:

Launch directory: /home/thomas/fah
Executable: ./fah6
Arguments: -smp -verbosity 9 -bigadv

[09:39:48] - Ask before connecting: No
[09:39:48] - Proxy: 127.0.0.1:8880
[09:39:48] - User name: Thomas_R (Team 3)
[09:39:48] - User ID: 383955AE41E85691
[09:39:48] - Machine ID: 14
[09:39:48]

A potential conflict was detected:

Process 3404 is currently running and may also be a client with Mach. ID 14.
The program will now exit. Upon restart, this check will not be done --
You may wish to check that no client is currently running in
/tmp/langouste-thomas/3384/clientdir before restarting.

Please press any key to exit.

What should I do?????

As I said, langouste is uploading the result from the finished WU in the background, so you should not reboot the machine. This could destroy the upload, but hopefully the upload will continue after the reboot.

Started htop and see there one command "./fah6".
Killed it and started fah again.
Now it is running.

But have I to change any settings???

@alias
That langouste is working I know.
But if the upload needs 2 hours something is wrong. Or not?

"./fah6" is the command for starting f@h. No, I do not think you should change anything yet. I guess that things have been working normal over some time, so there is no need to change.

I know that "./fah6" is the command to start F@H.
What do you think how I could else start it ever??? :D

But I had shut down the terminal where this command was working. Because it was over 2 hours no more reaction.
Than I come here and made my posting.
Started a new terminal with htop and saw, that there is one command with "./fah6".
Killed this and started it in a new terminal again.
Now it is running.

Now I hope I have explained it better.
I know that my english is not the best.

I understand your english quite well.

It is important to know if one should be able to help, and you did never confirm it as a fact, but is it so that you are using langouste?

Thanks!
Langouste is a very smart tool that allow uploading & downloading at the same time. You will not be able see upload of the WU result in the fahlog.txt, because this is taken place in the background, in terminal 2. If you have to reboot the machine for some reason, you must take a backup of the f@h files first. The best way to do this is to copy the entire fah folder to the desktop. If thing goes wrong at booting & starting f@h you simple copy the fah folder back from the desktop and reboot again. This way you never loose a WU in folding again.

Oh!
Yes - I use langouste.

@402blownstroker

Here in Bavaria we say "I am a land-egg"!
That means, that I´m living offside any bigger town.
My Inet-Connection has 2Mbit here.
Thats really frustrating.
But this is not the problem on my problem ( ;) )

@alias
You don´t understand what I want to say!
I give up - my english is really to bad.

But your tip regarding the previous storage of the FAH-Folder is really meaningful!

2Mbps should be enough for upload within the time set for each WU. Maybe you have a configuration problem in your setup that you have to look into.

As I can see in the PPD listings, my rig with 64 Cores an a really high total-GHz from 160 GHz, can not reach the PPD what a 48 core rig can do.
Do you think it is better to run a second instance of FAH and booth of them with 32 cores?

No, do not run 2 instances with 32 cores each: 1 with 64. The IL cores just aren't as good as the MC for folding. Right now I have 48 IL cores @ 3.0GHz and they fold about the same as 48 MC cores at 2.4GHz. There are many factors that come into play and it is not just raw Gigahertz.

Since one week I have this problem
The machine was running normal with a 8101. After this there was a problem with the connection over hours and a normal smp-wu was comming in.
I killed ./fah6, making a restart and started ./fah6 again. A 8101 was comming.
But after this again a normal smp-wu.
Same procedure as before.
And now this is going so since a week.

What should I do?

This have been a normal situation on my rigs for about 2 weeks now. Randomly it comes down projetcs from P85xx & P69xx as those logs shows:

This one shows P8553

The next problem is that the WU´s can not be sent.

[05:51:32] + Could not connect to Work Server (results)

At the moment the 6th WU is running, but no results go out.
Do you have a fix for this?

I connected to the same server about 3 hour ago, so I think you must have a local problem. If the problem continue, try to reset the client.

Do you have a fix for this?

Bevor these 7 WU´s I´ve done a reset five times - after every 810x was comming a smp unit.
After every reset (including delete machinedependent.dat, queue.dat and work-folder) the results and the points from every WU have been deleted too.
If I reset the client again, the WU´s and Points deleted once more.
Should I really do this? No other fix for the problem?

Arghhh --- how can I get the text in a box to scroll???

You told me earlier that you are using Langouste. That means that the common log FAHlog.txt will not show the up and download. This will only be seen in the second terminal that shows communication with the servers. So my guess is that thing is working normal for your servers, but I could ofcourse be wrong. Can you check this very carefully again. You must look in the second terminal and there you will see the amount of MB that has been going up and down.

Code:
You can make the windows scroll by using Code around the text you will want to scroll in.
The Code sign is like this: # in the menu.

Langouste was running the last half year, but I´ve never seen this terminal.
