ok... soo i need some help.. i have a 1u server ... called an INETserver... it has no optical or floppy drives... and no vga ports... it has:

Ace-815A switching power supply
WD 40gig harddrive
ROCKY-3708E2V motherboard
PCI-2SD2 pci extender... i got 2 pci slots
there is an LCD model MTC-S0802XFYNSAY
2 lines by 8 characters, STN, TransFlective, Yellow background, Normal operating temperature range, Six o’clock viewing angle, Array Yellow/green LED backlight, with KS0066 or equivalent controller

serial port in the front labeled consol
in the back of the server are the following ports
paralell port 2 lan ports 2 usb ports phone line jack

... ok.. so the this is my problem... how the HECK do i turn on the switchin power supply.. lol i can plug in another powersupply and turn it on... but ... i plug in the switching power supply and the lcd turns green.. soo i know power is going through it... the fans dont run.. NOTHING... but anyways... i am thinkin maybe some wake on lan thing? ... i can go the round about way and do a pci graphics card and external usb drive... but htat alot of extra crap.. i would rather it be simple.. ... i am takin pictures now to show u what i have and so i can get some help.. thanks guys!

wait a min, isn't that a monitor plug in the front there that says Console??


and how come the psw doesn't plug in above the processor? i see a white plug for it.

You should have a DB15 for a CTR.
So follow the wires back untill you find the correct output.

ok so i made a makshift sorta switch thing and found out that it is the LCD that turns it on.. cause i plug the makshift switch in there and then hodl it in and the thing turns ond.. YAY.. no how the FRICK does the lcd work.. lol i don't know how to access it.. cause it plugs into the motherboard.. i think i got a serial out of it.. hold on..
 
yeah google is freakin great when it is right... ... there is supposed to be a .. cn5 cn7 or cn8... and umm... i don't have any of those.. i looked in teh book to see the locastin and the pieces that are supposed to be sodered there are not there..
 
Have a look under where the usb ports are.
The picture of the card I found had a vidio out there.

haha i know.. there are 3 different things that are supposed to be aroudn there.. a reg vga port like u see in that picture and a 10 pin adapter thing and someother thing.. but... NONE OF THEM ARE FREAKIN THERE! ... it has to be all through this lcd... arh...

jeez calm down. look closer its a MALE port and its 9 pin.

if it was me Id slap an old PCI vidcard in it and try playin with it.

If you look closer it is a DB-9, a serial port
 
ok guys this is what i have done.. since my makeshift switch works i'm goin to go out and get a real one.. w/ on off... but right now i have it duck taped down to keep the machine one... i purchased a pci graphics card from wallyworld and a usb to ps2 convertor for my keyboard and mouse cause ... i dind't have a usb keyboard.. but yeah... i also atached a dvd drive and am now installing windows server 2003 web edition... sooo i think i am goin to get it all straightened out... i just need to find a way to get the lcd to work... so i can get this makeshift switch outa there.. but for now... it works..
 
I believe there is an LCD faq somewhere. Might help get that thing workin.
 
/me groans at server 2003 going on such a sweet piece of hardware.

freeBSD would make it sooooo much more efficient...
and about not knowing it, I dont either. imma learn and make my server RIGHT! :D
 
hmmm i got all this free software from microsoft.. :( i wanna use it... lol... i think i'm goin to stream music or somthing... and host pictures and movies... ...yeah... that is what i will do w/ this one..
 
i have a Cisco 831 Router comin tomarow... soo i don't need a dhcp server... i don't know what to use it for other than a web server... and linux is more hassel that it is worth to me... i enjoy the built in remote desktop in server 2003 .. so many features to just give up
