I want to setup a comp just to stick in the corner to run the GPU client. Just one GPU on Vista 64 or XP whichever is best. Will I need a monitor hooked up when I boot the PC for F@H to start? Could I get everything setup at my desk, shut-down, carry the PC where I'm going to use it and boot it without a moniter and have it run? Just use FaHSpy to keep track of it?

It would just be a PITA to carry a moniter over to it just to boot if I don't have to.

Yes you can do that. You'll need the monitor (as you already know) for setup, but after that, you can run headless.

Many here run their machines headless and monitor via FaHSpy or FaHMon

Run windows XP.

Vista has issues if a monitor is not hooked up while running the GPU client. (you can get around this by using a dummy plug, but if you have both OS' just run XP.)

If the box is used for folding only, then XP will work just fine.

What hardware are you planning to get ??

I'd go for a dual GPU box.
100% more PpD for only ~50% more pwer used, all for just over the cost of an extra vid card.
Base it around a dual x16 PCI-E slot MoBo, with a 45Watts Brisbane CPU, 2 Gigs Ram, ect, etc.
Depending on exactly which vid cards you get, the whole lot should come to under $500.

Luck ............ :D

I'm just sticking together some parts I have laying around.

Pent D 915 @3.3G
Abit AW8D mobo Has 2 PCI-E slots. 1 x16 1 x8
2g DDR2800 4x512mb
80g HDD
XFX 8800GS Alpha Dog

I already have Vista 64 on the comp.

Yup i have one of my boxes doing exactly this, running an 8800GT and 8800GS with windows XP headless, and i use VNC to manage the computer itself. works great.
