New to SSD

After six years I think having a a hard disc drive is slowing me down. I've had slowdowns on my PC and I don't necessarily think it's because of my cpu or even gpu during gaming or just simple web browsing. So I think now is the time to finally get an SSD.

The problem is I have heard of certain SSDs having problems over time and I'm not sure if the price is affordable to me yet. I'm looking for a 120 gb or higher SSD but I'm only willing to spend up to 100-150.

They have warranties, most of them decent ones, so just make sure you backup regularly and you're good. You won't go back to running your OS on a mechanical hard drive :D

I bought a Samsung 830 128GB for ~$100 and I love it!

OCZ's get a bad rep, but faultiness is just the risk you take with any HDD. I've had my OCZ's for 2 years and no sign of them slowing down yet.

I've switched from the M4 (a quality drive no doubt), to the samsungs. I think they are just as reliable (if not more so), and generally faster in virtually every case.

I got a Samsung 840 recently as my first SSD, no regrets. The 120GB version is only $109 on Newegg.

They're older stuff like the Vertex 2 seem to have a really high failure rate.Their newest stuff which they make all the parts for now is getting very good reviews. Some even say it's one of the fastest SSD's out there.

I like the Samsung 840 Pro - its Magician SW is much easier than say Crucial for Firmware updates or optimization. Mine came with HD duplication SW anice bonus.

Except it doesn't work with AMD chipsets :/ (The firmware update, that is)

This is another thing I'm worried about. Do I have to upgrade my mobo or buy anything extra to install an SSD?
LOL. I guess you are pretty new. :)

If you have a SATA HD port you're good to go.

OCZ has had a bad reputation from the get-go because of all the "tricks" and misleading specs they did.

I have no idea if they've improved but I would go back to mechanical HDs if they were the only manfg available.

Buy something decent and forget about 'um. :)
