New to overclocking - need help

Ok, I'm new to overclocking and I need some assistance.

I've seen some people overclocking the CPU to 4.0 Ghz without any issues but for me even if I overclock it slightly my computer would either crash, freeze, restart or gives me blue screens of death, especially running games.

I have a E8500 and the default clock speed is 3.16 Ghz. I managed to overclock it to 4.03 Ghz and opened it with CPU-Z and it displays that the core speed is indeed 4.003+.

So where did I go wrong? Do I need to adjust something else to get it working properly or I can't seem to overclock it at all without getting any stability issues? And I'm using a GA-EP45-DQ6 motherboard which is a high end motherboard.
