New to intel.

I have always been an AMD man till I saw how much intel came back with the core 2 duo chips. I recently bought myself the x6700 core 2 duo chip with evga's 680i sli mobo.

I am completely new to building intel systems and was wondering after you install the cpu and close the socket cap thing, is there some force involved to lock it in? I feel like its putting alot of pressure onto my chip. Is this normal?

Just spent over 1k on this upgrade and well am just a tad worried. I am on the system atm with temps reading around 31-33c.

Although i have only installed 1 LGA775 chip, and it was 2 year ago, I do recall you had to put some pretty good pressure on the chip

If you are already up on that machine, you are golden and there are no problems
nice temp as well, what are you using to see that temp?
 
Yes, it requires some force to get the locking arm down and secured. Just make sure the cpu is seated properly (the indentations on the sides of it should align with the tabs in the socket, and the arrow should be pointing at the base of the locking arm) and apply the slight pressure to lock it down.
 
I personally like the LGA system over the pins. I'll never forget how pissed I was when I got an OEM CPU and had to bend about 25 pins back into place just to get the thing to work :(.

LGA is by far a superior design, no question about that. Much less likely to damage the cpu, so much easier to slip in the socket, socket holds the cpu with even pressure and theres no worry about ripping it out of the socket when taking your heatsink off, etc etc.
