Getting ready to replace my long in tooth x6, and even though I've never built a system without an amd processor in it, I just can't justify buying a piledriver.
I'm having trouble deciding / figuring out what to buy next. Best I can tell, temps/max clocks get worse each generation, sandy-ivy-haswell, but IPC goes up.
I'm looking at a few different choices, 4470k, a 3770k, or trying Ivy-e (4930k). I realize that each of those require a different chipset, and offer some different advantages.
A few extra details to round it all out.
I have 4 sticks of the good samsung low power ddr3 waiting for whatever, so I have enough sticks to populate all the channels on a s2011 build. I'll be using my existing 7970, and my ssd's. I use my system for almost exclusively for gaming and I play in eyefinity (portrait bezel corrected 3400x1920). Cooling is h60 with 2x gentle typhoon for now, case limited to 120mm rad, but open to upgrading to to larger sealed water (no custom loops for now).
Basically, I'm looking for someone a lot more familiar with intel cpu's to give me some direction, it's been a long while since I've had to ask for advice with my hat in hand, but I don't relish the thought of doing this build more than once.
