New to computer Reformatting

Hi like the title says I just got done with a computer reformat and installed everything off the cd's but i have been told that i need to install new drivers not sure where to go and what exactly has to be upgraded. Also if u could plz provide links that would really really help. Here are my specs AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processor 3800+ Evga Nvida GeForce 7800 GT, x-fi Platnium sound card, 1 gb or ram. If there is anything else needed to know ask away. Thank-you to all who responds.

go here and try opiton 2 it should (your computer might ask you if its ok to run the active x control, tell it yes, you can trust Nvidia) run a little program that will find out what Nvidia chipset (Nforce) drivers you need, and then what video (Gforce) driver you might need.

that will take care of the motherboard and video. Go to the web sites of your other products and look at the download link to find drivers for the exact products you have in the machine. Most if not all will be newer than what came on the CD with the machine. Check the installation instructions of each. Most of the time you have to go into Control Panel/add-remove-programs and uninstall the old driver first if you used one on a CD that came with the machine, reboot, then install the newly downloaded driver.

I am assuming in the above you have an Nvidia chipset motherboard. Probally a safe bet.
These are general instructions only, each piece of equipment should have its own detailed instructions for updating, typically found on the driver download page, read carefully or print them out.

Typically you want to reboot after installing each new driver even if the machine does not tell you to.

do the motherboard chipset,
then video
then the x-fi.

after all done, right click the "my computer" and click on "properties" and click on "hardware manager" you should not see any yellow caution symbols or red exclaimation marks. Expand the entries by clicking on the little + marks in the box and see if all your stuff is listed and there are no warnings. If you find your stuff listed (for instance under "video adapter" you should see your video card name and model number) you are good to go. This is for XP, Vista should be almost the same but I am not sure of the details.
