New to BC2, any pointers?

Yea, I gave up on helicopters. Maybe I'll pick an empty server and try it again one day. Same with the UAV. I wish controllers worked with the game. Then I could map the helicopter to my 360 pad or logitech game pad.

I managed to map my ps3 controller so I can fly the helicopter with it. Haven't turned off auto-leveling yet and give the ps3 controller a try again. I've been practicing with the keyboard and shiet is hard.

I honestly prefer the mouse for flying. I just turn sensitivity all the way up and pwn.

Bullet drop has only ever been for sniper rifles and rocket launchers. Quit fighting over nothing you guys.

Go back to the setting you edited to get it to be oversensitive and lower the numbers until you find what works for you.

Problem is there were several settings, and I've changed a lot of them back no change :(

Best to restore your backup of those files then and stick everything back on default. The one you want to change is the ground vehicle setting, just follow that original guide as you did the first time around, but make a note of the original setting and try and find something between that and the number recommended by the guide.

Any ideas on the lost connection stuff that happens during gameplay? I tried to disable uPnP on my router and computer; manually forwarded all ports. Still getting disconnected every half and hour or so.

eh, that stuff is only important if you are running a server mostly. what type of broadband do you have? if the answer is adsl then sucks to be you. :)

Cable 15/1. Connect at <20ms to local servers and <30 to good ones in the states. The only reason I mentioned uPnP/ports is because some people said it cleared up disconnection/connection lost issues during gameplay for them. But it hasn't seemed to resolve it for me.

Frustrating to say the least.

Check your router. I had some connection issues where my ping would start off great but after an hour or so it'll go to shiet. It wasn't until I experience complete network degradation that I realize it was the router. Was having difficult connecting to it. My download speed is back to what it was. Thought my isp was throttling me the entire time.

Update the firmware on your router.

I've mentioned it before but the port forwarding from DICE is WRONG (and a joke). They recommend forwarding TCP 80 back to your client (lol). No game server, or an ancillary server, makes TCP connections back to the client (lol).

If anything, and only if you're using a dumb router or a Cisco PIX/ASA, you should only need to forward the UDP game traffic port(s), which of course DICE never listed because they're stupid.

You can either look at the firewall log on the router or temporarily bridge your machine and run something like wireshark on the client to see what UDP ports are being used.

The simple answer is to disable upnp like you did and update the firmware.

Or, if your router supports it, install dd-wrt and be done.

This thread inspired me to reinstall this game and give it another shot. Constant deaths and frustration of not being able to hit targets got me to stop playing last time.

Watching videos of the maps getting destroyed and the awesome sound effects along with this thread made me want to give it another shot. Here goes nothing... Hopefully i can get something done in game.

I play on ADSL where the hit detection is so horrible that I just smile and try again. Every 1 vs 1 firefight ends up with me dead and the other person at 10%. I have never won a 1 vs 1 close quarters fight unless I use a shotgun. If I could only register my first bullet first....

On a side note, I have switched to a double barrel shotgun / Gustav (middle rocket launcher) build. Shotgun compensates for my inability to get the first hit on people, and the rocket launcher is my sniper rifle. On maps where everything is spread out' I'm forced to use a submachine gun; but close quarters maps it's shotgun / rocket launcher.

Fun times.
