New system won't boot

My brother just put a new computer together with some assistance from me over the phone. We've done everything I normally do (over 10 systems built so far), only it won't boot. The computer powers on when the switch is hit, and the fans and stuff come on, but there's no video feed. I can't tell you if it beeps or not as my brother failed to locate the wire for the case speaker. His monitor has a yellow light status for when it is on with no video feed and a green one for when there is a feed. When he powers the system up, it goes green for a few seconds and then back to yellow.

The system has a 3000+ A64 939 processor (retail cooler), an ASUS A8V mobo, and 512MB PC3200 RAM. As near as I can tell he did it right, I told him to be on the lookout for things that would short the mobo (he's like 200 miles away so I can't really check it out myself), yet he's got nothing.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Take everything out and redo it :D

Actually, first thing I would try is reseating the processor. That's usually a good one with this type of problem :D

Reseating the processor? I'll try it, but isn't it pretty difficult to screw that up, as it only goes in one way according to the pin-holes on the socket...

Thanks for your reply!

True, no onboard graphics, we're using an MX4000 for the time being. It will be replaced with a 6600GT when it works, thought I suppose we can attempt to swap out the cards out now. I think the monitor's ok, though we have another we can try with that as well.

i had the same problem when i build my new computer, i put everything together and it didnt post, power fans everything else came on. except for video. well i took everything apart and put it back together and reseated the video card 2-3 times and finally came on. try doing that. since he doesn't have mobo sound to detect warning signs tell him to take everything out that doesn't need to be there and power it on.

i posted what *might* be a similar problem here altho not had any replies from it just yet.

Ive pretty much tried everything to get it fixed... so no avail (yet) ive nearly run out of options ;o
