Hey everyone,

I have an old computer (Athlon 64 socket 754) and the motherboard is dying. I want to salvage anything I can from it, but the cpu is old (A64 skt 754 3000+), only a gig of ram and a 80gb HD.

The case is an old thermaltake tsunami case and a 400W OCZ Modstream PSU.

I wanted to take maybe $500-$700 and build myself the best computer I can.

I don't need a display, as I'd like to hook it up to my 42" 1080p plasma. I don't game to much, sometimes WoW. I also have a keyboard and a mouse.

Just need the necessities, CPU, Motherboard, GPU, RAM. And maybe a new PSU and case if necessary. It does not have to include the Operating System.

I don't care if it's Nvidia or AMD or Intel. I'm out of the loop as to the latest and greatest and am purely seeking the best bang for my buck, the only caveat is I'd want functionality with my big screen.

Thanks everyone.

Thank you for the reply, I am curious, what's the best video card I can expect to be able to operate with my 400W OCZ PSU?

I was looking at

I could use my old PSU for the time being, Add more RAM, a new GPU, and maybe upgrade the processor a little as well.

Would the 4890 work with my current PSU, or even a 4870 for that matter?

Thanks again!

Onboard video most likely. Maybe the HD4350 or HD4550 if you stick to a low power dual-core. The OCZ ModXStream 400W is too low quality to handle a card like the HD4870 + a quad core CPU.

And before you ask: No, the included PSU with that Dell will not be enough for the HD4870.
