i was looking for some good 2.0 or 2.1 speakers and i came up with these:
logitech z-10
bose companion 2 series II

which ones should i get?

BOSE

OR

LOGITECH

Both of those are $150 ish

Of the two, the Logitech will be far better. The only thing Bose is good at is marketing.

If you make a thread about this kind of thing, though, be prepared for other options and be open minded enough to consider them.

for a $150 budget the Klipsch are probably your best bet. As someone said in a recent thread, "would you rather buy speakers from an audio specialist, or a company that makes mice and keyboards?".

So someone in another thread was a closed-minded asshole. So what?

I seriously don't think the logitech speakers are of good sound quality. I got a set. returned them the same day. The bass on the ones I got was just way too boomy no matter where I turned the bass down.

Klipsch will be no better in that regard. However, that is a valid complaint, unlike "would you rather buy speakers from an audio specialist, or a company that makes mice and keyboards?"

'tis why it's best to just listen on your own, unless you know someone tends to like the same kind of sound you do. Lots of people love those Klipsch systems but they're horribly bright to me. I had the Promedia 2.1THX myself and waaaay too bright.

for the most part the people that buy "computer-speakers" are younger kids that want LOUD. and don't really have an ear for what music is supposed to sound like. basically the same kids that toss 2 15" subs in the back of ther 92' Civic hatchback with a couple of 5" speakers and think it sounds "AMAZING"

I had pretty good luck with those Klipsch speakers when I had them about 2 years ago, I used the equalizer on my pc to turn down the bass quite a bit. before that i had the logitech z-560 4.1 setup and it sounded "good" to me (then again I had 2 12" subs in the back of my grand am with a couple of blown 6x9's lol). I was much happier once I got the klipsch speakers.

Now I am very happy with the sound of my setup, but I have slowly bought and saved to get the setup I wanted.

I think the 2.1 Klipsch will work great for you for now, and later down the road once you have more space you can upgrade to a receiver and book shelf speakers if you wanted to.

good luck with your decision.

No, that someone (ME) has years of experience with audio equipment and offered a suggestion based on that experience.

Why don't you hurl some more profanity my way so everyone can see what a smart, tough guy you are?

chill guys... lets get back on topic...

more opinions welcome...
He never read my full post so he has no idea what I actually "argued" about speakers. For under $175, my recommendation remains the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 THX system. Good luck!

Second the Klipsch 2.1s.

Logitech speakers, in my opinion, have really muddy mid-ranges and really thumpy bass. In comparison, the Klipschs have way better clarity in all ranges, plus more defined bass.

That being said, you should go to best buy or whatever and test the speakers out on the display and find what you like.

And highs so bright that it's like stabbing you in the ear. To me, anyway.

Right.

how about the options i mentioned?

The logitech Z10s are overpriced, and youre paying half of the price for the play stop etc buttons and the display, they are not a good value IMO.

The bose is not THAT overpriced, and theyre good speakers for contending in the $100 market. However i think these are better than both the logitech and the bose:

Of course the m-audio studiophile AV40s will do much better than all of those, due to the larger drivers, and i would imagine the amp inside the studiophiles is of much higher quality. So if you want to spend $150 exactly, get the m-audios, if you want to spend $80, get the klipsch 2.0s.

I am currently on my second set of Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's. The speakers have served me well, however both have suffered from the same problem: after a time, the socket of the plug that connects the control box on the bottom of one of the satellites to the subwoofer will fail. The subwoofer isn't my footrest, like some people like to do, and it hasn't been banged around or moved much. Even so, both sets have done this to me, and I suspect it's just the poor choice of an s-video type connector rather than a more sturdy design.

The Klipsches sound great, but like other Klipsch sets, they hiss when the speakers are at moderate to high volumes. The subwoofer, while powerful, is not the most accurate if it's not set up just right, and can be quite boomy and overpowering depending on the track/EQ. I've been very happy with both of my Klipsches, it's just a damn shame that they're breaking on me after only a year each. :(

Currently, I'm considering the Logitech Z-2300 set as a replacement.

i have the z-2300 and rock music sounds like crap on them but rap sounds really good along with games.

I really want to buy the Klipsch speakers but everyone and their mother has said that the DIN plug is prone to failure. The problem is all over their forums, the one sticky topic they have is a diagram showing you how to fix that broken cable! Do a search on ebay and you will see more than a few sellers who specialize in fixing the Promedia 2.1 DIN plugs, and people are actually bidding on their services! Wish Klipsch would just revise the design already, it's probably the only thing stopping me from getting those speakers.

Anyway back to the topic, the Z-10 looks like it connects via USB, bypassing any sound card you may have planned on using. I heard you can use the analog input too, but then you use the front panel functionality of the speakers which would basically defeat it's whole gimmick. Also, you have no idea what quality of hardware they are using to decode sound. In my experience, logitech all-in-one products have been very poor. For example, I have owned 2 logitech usb headsets, and the first one lasted about 10 months, and the second one lasted about 10 weeks. Both are now FUBAR. I was especially displeased when the second headset went down so fast. Furthermore, I have had problems with other logitech speakers including the old z-5300 (they are now z-5300e for a reason). Basically, after about a year the z-5300 had one rear channel spit out static, and the subwoofer had lost nearly 90% of its volume, basically making my 5.1 a 4.0 gimp. So, in my experience logitech definitely has some quality control issues when it comes to their audio products. For these reasons, I cannot justify buying the Z-10 or the z-2300's or any other logitech speakers no matter how much people rave about them.

If it had to come down to those 2 choices, go for the Bose. The only knock I've heard about them is the lack of bass, but thats to be expected from 2.0 speakers that size. Maybe you could try them out before you buy, I think I saw them at Best Buy the other day...

I had a Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 THX about 2 months after 1 year, the DIN cable was shot and the BASH amp was shot. I don't know if it is just isolated to the 5.1 series, but I would not touch a Klipsch amp with a 10 foot pole. I simply purchased a receiver and a powered subwoofer and never looked back.

Current setup:
SCS-300.5 (Speakers only)
Velodyne VX-10 Subwoofer
Yamaha RX-461 Receiver

I've had my Klipsch 2.1's for over 2 years. IMO, you cannot get better sounding speakers out of a 2.1 system. As others have mentioned, the DIN plug can fail, but luckily mine has never failed. Look around at best buy, usually they have them on sale for $99.

If you do get them, I would replace the cables with the upgrade monster cable's from Klipsch. The original ones are crap.

hah, the reviews say low bass. As a previous owner of those, I call BS. Chest thumping bass is actually more mid-bass, 100-120Hz. People often mistake it for being low.

I've been using a set of Klipsch 5.1 THX Ultras (had the regular set first, died, got ultras upon RMA from the company! They were very helpful). They sound pretty great, especially for "computer" speakers.

will sound better with a receiver lol the thing i hate about the promedia 5.1 is the horrible amp they have. shitty caps parts and all
