I recently installed a xonar essence stx and all sorts of gremlins have emerged.

First, the computer has been realy picky as to wether it will post or not. It will post after a few tries but it is really hit or miss. second i am crashing to desktop in several games. One potential cause is the southbridge heatsink preventing the card from seating properly. It looks like it is in the board but it never really snaps into place and it comes out easily. Would this cause the problems i am seeing?
I removed the sound card and was able to reboot the computer several times without a problem and play games for more than an hour. The first boot after reinstalling the sound card i got a atikmpag.sys BSOD at the windows loading screen(just as i was hearing the headphone amp on the card kick in

My system is as follows.
C2D e7200
4gigs DDR2-800
DFI LanParty DK P35 T2RS
500gig WD caviar black
Radeon 4850
Xonar Essence STX
OCZ 850 watt PSU.

So confirm for us this: The PC boots and works 100% just fine without the sound card installed correct? And issues ONLY occur with the sound card connected?

Been messing with it all day.
I got my crashes nailed down to part being graphics and the other APB being a steaming pile of crap of a game.

I removed the sound card and the post issues were gone but i still got crashes, so i removed the drivers with ati installer, ran driver sweeper, then did a fresh install. That seemed to solve the problem crashing in games. The sound card is back in and it is still having trouble posting, however when it does start it seems to be working just fine since i fixed the graphics drivers.. Just now got some time to play and test it.

I also moved the sound card to a PCIe slot where the heatsink would not interfere. The heatsink is not blocking it but it appears the notch in the PCIe connector is too shallow. When in the board it will pivot on the notch point a few millimeters front to back.

Well let us know the results.

Oh test the sound card in another system.

Thanks for takin a look at my thread by the way.

Update:

Been playing MoH beta for an hour and a half with no problems. Even have D3DGX activated. Wanted to try BFBC2 however i think i borked the sound on it trying to fix the crashing with creative alchemy universal. APB has been crashing to a general protection fault that several people have been experiencing since the latest patch.

Now if i could just figure out this posting issue.

Finally convinced a friend that i wont hurt his computer testing my card lol. Anyways, on a standard dell mobo the card snapped into place and seated properly. No posting issues whatsoever.

Looks like it may be time to pull the trigger on the AMD/DDR3 setup i was looking at.
