Ok, here are the specs

i7 920
ecs x58b-a
3x2gb Apogee GT
Sapphire 2gb 4890 Vapor X
PC Power & Cooling 750W Silencer

SATA DVDRW
3x SATA HD's

had it up and running outside of the case no problems.

and then i installed it in my antec 1200 and now all it does is power up (GPU fan @ 100% speed) and it just sits there. my POST display ends up on 85, which according to the ecs manual: "Display errors to the user and gets the user response for error." Which obviously isn't very helpful.

I counted the # of standoff's i'm using by looking @ the back of the mobo tray and that matches up to how many screws i'm using to attach my mobo to the mobo tray.

all my power connections are hooked up (24pin, 8pin, 8&6pin in GPU as well as 4pin molex right above my GPU)

i have no idea what else to check :(

any ideas?

Take it back out and put it back in, making sure the screws that fasten the mobo to the backplate are perfectly centered.

Why the ECS motherboard?

i'm pretty sure they are damn close to being centered, all the screws went in without any resistance.

and because i got it for around $110

Try the system outside of the case again and see if it still boots up correctly. Look for any loose screws, wires, cables, standoffs, washers, etc.

well it's back outside the case, with all the devices plugged into it that i had plugged in while in the case... and it's up and running and i'm installing w7

i can't figure out whats going wrong when i put it in the case....

Something inside the case or the way you're placing the mobo inside the case is shorting the motherboard and therefore no POST.

i'm placing it on the 9 standoffs in my case and then using 9 screws to attach it ...

should i try not running the front panel connections for usb/audio & power/reset switches behind the mobo?

Try it and see what happens.

As for the standoffs, just trying using as little screws as possible. Just enough and in the right places to keep the motherboard attached to the case when the PC is upright. Typically two screws on the top of the mobo and two screws somewhere near the bottom of the motherboard.

the good ol less is more approach eh? i'll give that a whirl tomorrow. I'm content with it sitting on a box right now, at least i can use the damn thing! lol

well it's still sitting outside my case, i've been trying to oc it to no avail.

as soon as i touch the bclk, even bumping it from 133 to 140. after restart it just hangs and my post LED displays d1

any ideas?

going to check bios date now...

I think it said 9/23/09 the screen isn't up very long @ all.

Wait I'm little confused now: So your POST issue is now fixed? And now you're facing a different problem: The system won't OC?

I was thinking it was ram speed, but I can't tell by the screens he's given...

ECS boards can OC!?!? :p try bumping the cpu voltage a bit... though you really shouldn't have to. then again, it is a C0.

i really shouldn't have to bump the vcore in order to raise the bclk to 140 ...

i just said that... ... and I hinted that it was your board's fault, not your CPUs. :p what's your DRAM multiplier set to? lower the RAM speed, if you can, and relax the timings. 1T Cmd rate? though intels were 2T? my mind's playin tricks on me.
