Feel kinda like a jackass making all these topics with no other input but I am on my ends here.

Recieved my Happauge PVR-150 today from newegg, installed and downloaded the drivers for windows MCE. Everything seemed to be going fine untill I screwed in the cable cord to the tuner. MCE can't seem to get any picture at all, some kind of audio error? So I set up everything manual setup and the same problem. I thought, alright I will listen to others advice and try another front end software. (beyond TV) Still no picture.

Now in my house we use Dish network, 2 STB's, 4 TV's. I dragged all my equipment up stairs on the main TV with a STB connected S-video. Still can't get a live TV feed. So I went out and bought a signal splitter and 2 video cables thinking I would just make sure I am getting TV and record on the PC, yet again no TV on the HTPC. I have uninstalled drivers, installed drivers, and spent some time searching through guides and topics. I'm pretty much lost here.

160 gig drive
512 mem
xp1700+
windows MCE
radeon 9500 pro S-video output
Happauge PVR-150 MCE edition

you are going from the STB to the HTPC right? not the wall to the HTPC? the tuner cards can't tune channels on a dis, only from a basic antenna or analog cable.

Lemme see if I can make this simple to get.

Dish setup:
Dish -> Box 1 -> direct to TV (up stairs)

My TV (downstairs)

Now from the connection downstairs I plugged the cable straight into my tuner, didn't work. So I put a signal splitter in to watch shows on the TV and have the PC record it.

Cable from wall -> *splitter* --> TV
--> Tuner card

Now that you mention only basic antenna or analog cable, does this mean I am screwed or is there a way I can't connect this and work without goingdirectly from the STB? That's not really an option for me.

To get your dish channels you're going to have to use a STB. The 150 will tune regular-old over the air and cables channels. Nothing digital, nothing Hi-Def.

Right now, there's no other way of getting dish channels into your HTPC than using a STB

There is no way to tune a sattelite without using the provided set top box tuner.

Now if you want the whys and hows, it envolves encryption schemes ETC...

You could try one of those wireless video transmitters. I haven't used them myself, but they are a good way to get video connection from an STB upstairs to a TV downstairs.
