Looking to spend around $50-70, have no idea what to look for in power supplies anymore.

What wattage should I aim for, also, rails?

Any info would help,

First, what are the specs of your PC or planned PC?

Second, for your budget, this PSU is your best bet:
Corsair 450VX 450W PSU - $70

Basically look for a PSU with at least 33A on the +12V rails. Roughly a 450W to 500W PSU.

I don't really have much of it put together yet.

I won't have a lot of extra stuff.

Either the E8400 or Q6600 processor
4gigs Memory
most likely 4850 MSI video card
Some type of DVD drive

nothing beyond a normal PC. no SLI, possibly a raid with 2 HD's in the future.

What else would help?

That's all I need to know. The 450VX is still your best bet for your budget.

Is corsair one of the better PSU brands now?

It use to be that Antec was up there. Idk much about PSU's, I just one the best one I can get for my price range.

Yes Corsair is one of the better PSU brands now. Other good PSU brands are Thermaltake Purepower RX and Toughpower series, PC Power & Cooling, Enermax, Seasonic, Silverstone, BFG Tech, etc.

And again, the Corsair 450VX is the best PSU in your price range.

Thanks =)

If I were to ever do SLI or a Raid I would be ok with this right?

Maybe not SLI, but a raid

SLI no since the 450VX does not have a second PCI-E connector. But RAID yes.

Also, you won't need SLI or Crossfire unless you're playing at 1920x1200 or higher. If you games at lower than that, then SLI or Crossfire is rarely worth it.

Ahh yea.

I find 1280X1024 to be perfect

Based of that I can give you this information.

I am using a Q6600 overclocked to around 2.8GHz with a minor voltage increase.
8 GBs of RAM, GTX 280 with mild overclock, 4 HDDs, 2 DVD Drives.

I have a 750W Coolermaster Real Power pro.

With my P3 Kill-A-Watt, I measure I am using around 202W with general usage, and 340W gaming in Race Driver: Grid.

Thus assuming around 80% efficient power transformation from AC to DC, I use around 272W gaming.

I think a quality 450W or 500W PSU such as the Corsair units, Seasonic Units, or FSP units should work fine for you. If you plan on upgrading, maybe a 700W OCZ GameXstream or something similar should be bought; and it is not too much more expensive.

You have it backwards vgame64, according to your kill-a-watt you use 272 watts gaming, the kill-a-watt measures AC from the wall and then 20% of that is lost to resistance, etc and the 272 watts reaches your components.

Also do NOT get an OCZ, they have really bad ripple at high loads.

Durr...I am an idiot. Good point though, free power is not being generated from nowhere, what I draw from the wall is only being lost.

As for the OCZ, it powered my aforementioned rig perfectly, I just swapped it out because it was loud. For the OPs post, it should never exhibit ripple at the loads he will generate.

But still, I'd say avoid it as that demonstrates a design flaw, and why pay for a flawed product?

Technically the PSU could also handle SLI or Crossfire using a molex to 6 or 8-pin adapter. As long as you don't use cards that are too power-hungry, a multi-GPU setup would be doable on the VX450.

Just want to make sure, the Corsair VX450 watt is the best PSU for around $60-70?

Guessing no other PSU's in my price range match the Corsair VX450?

mine in the for sale section.....Antec Earthwatts 500W, has the ability to do SLI (has two 6 pin PCI-E connectors and lots of molex, SATA), etc....connections if you want to expand later, very quiet, 80plus certified so it's very efficient

i only ran it for a month or so...bought brand new from the egg, ran two G80 8800GTS cards in SLI which are power hungry, on a DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra D mobo which used like 4 power connections itself....much more power useage than your system and it never missed a lick and ran very efficiently and cool

Just in case you missed it...

I agree with Danny, the VX450 is perfect for you.

i have had the same experience from newegg, zzf, and tigerdirect, also directron.com....all good online retailers to name a few

you would not be any worse off or better off between newegg or zzf, so go for whichever one has the best price

Kk thanks, unless I find other stuff I need on ZZF at a lower price I'm going to order that PSU today.

Any idea how the MIR with ZZF works? usually I can print one out or something.

The price of the MIR on that page is actually a link to the rebate form. What I generally prefer to do is download the PDF and wait until I actually get the item before I print it, just to make sure I don't lose the form.

Yea I cannot find the rebate form.

I sent them a message regarding that.

I did order the PSU from there though.

$10 difference is worth it.
