Hello gang,

This is the setup Im currently posting from:

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T + Asus M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 combo (combo deal expires 12/31)

G.Skill Ripjaws 2x4GB DDR3 1600 CL9 1.5V dual channel kit

Intel X25-M G2 120GB SSD

Samsung Spinpoint F4 HD204UI 2TB 5400RPM HDD

LG GH22NS50B SATA DVD burner

Antec NSK 6582B case with Antec Earthwatts EA-430D Green 430W PSU

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit System Builders DVD

Thanks to all that gave suggestions. The system booted up right away and that Intel X25 120 GS SSD FLIES! However I still havent setup the 2TB Samsung HD. I've never setup a PC with two HDs. ALl the main programs will be on the Intel drive. The Samsung will have programs that are not as important and backup info. I'm, not sure how to proceed. Is Raid an option? if so how do I do that?

Nothing special on adding a second HDD. Install, make sure it appears in BIOS, and format/name the drive from Win7's "Disk Manager". Might even want to remap the "My Docs" folder to a new location on that 2TB drive.

What are you wanting to RAID? What kind of RAID array? What is compelling you to ask? What are you wanting to accomplish?

Again, the OS and all of your key programs go onto your SSD and all other software and data go on the HDD. Don't worry about RAID right now; focus on getting your system set up properly.

If you want to move your My Documents folder to the other drive, there are plenty of guides available via Google or Bing.
 
I just basically wanted the fastest possible seek times. Sounds easy enough though.
 
No offense, but you're overthinking things.

You're going to see notably faster performance just by switching to an SSD.
 
Machine isnt booting up with the SSD when connect the 2TB Samsung drive. I went to Bios to setup Intel SSD drive as primary and it wasnt recognizing it. Should I setup the samsun drive as a slave?
 
Update: I went into BIOS and setup the SSD as the #1 Drive and as the #1 Boot Drive and it booted right into WIN 7, Win & said it installed teh Samsung 2TB Drive but when I go to my computer I dont see it as an option. I only see the SSD Intel Drive (C:)
 
Should the drives be installed on seperate power cables? does it matter? Should the 2TB drive have the slave jumper in? I read somewhere that it didnt mater

Go into Disk Management, initiate the drive, then format it from there.

I tried that the Disk Manager does not see the drive, but the BIOS does.
 
If the drive is present in the BIOS, then it should be present in your OS. Are you sure the drivers are installed for your HDD controller? Go into device manager and make sure you aren't missing any drivers (though I doubt you would be, unless that drive isn't connected to the same controller as your SSD).
 
Yes, the only think not installed now are USB Drivers. Device manager also sees the Samsung Drive, but Windows 7 Disk Manager does not! This is odd. THe USB Drivers were already updated to.
 
Restart the PC and try again?

Go to Samsung's site, see if they have a HDD diagnostic program available and use that?
 
I've restarted it several times. Device Manger lists the drive.. yet Disk Manager does not. This is odd..
 
When you first installed Windows, did you have both drives fully connected to the computer?

You may have to use the Disk Manager to manually format the Samsung drive. Failing that, you may have to go nuclear and reinstall Windows.
 
no I didn't have both drives installed. Should I log in as an Administrator think that might make a different with the disk manager?
 
You may need to log into Disk Manager as an Administrator, but you definitely need to access it to initialize the drive.
 
Just curious, but what mode is your SATA controller on? IDE/AHCI/RAID? If it's not on AHCI nor RAID, I'd highly suggest switching to it one of the two, depending on if you're running an array or not (or planning to). ;)
