Hi All
I am looking to upgrade my five year old PC to something that will do me for another five years. I have already purchased a new graphics card which is in use in my current PC so i only need a CPU, Motherboard, SSD and Memory. I would like to reuse my case as while its pretty old its big and i would rather spend the money on things that make it go faster. The PSU isnt the greatest in the world and i would rather not buy a new one but if i need to i will.
Current setup is as follows
Intel E6400 (2.13ghz)
4GB OCZ 6400 RAM
Gigabyte 965-DS3 Mainboard
Sapphire Radeon 6870 1GB
HIGHPOWER 500W ATX Power Supply Unit
Antec PC Performance Case
One of my primary requirements is I want to be able to use the Intel Quick Sync to encode video while still making use of the Radeon graphics card.
I am interested in recommendations on a Mainboard along with 8GB of memory as well as an SSD. The SSD will be for OS and primary applications while i have some older 300GB SATA drives for putting generic stuff on so 60 or 120GB if the jump in price isnt too high would be fine.
I am after good performance rather than loads of features that will be of limited benefit.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming (Wow, Eve Online, Diablo 3)
Video encoding
General office type work
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
£500 including VAT and shipping.
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
UK
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU - i7 3770k
HDD - 60 or 120gb SSD but not sure which model
Motherboard - not sure which one to get
Memory - 8GB but dont know which one to buy
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
I have the following which i intend to reuse
Sapphire Radeon 6870 1GB
Highpower 500W ATX Power Supply Unit
Antec PC Performance Case
6) Will you be overclocking?
Not at first but I want the option in the future.
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
1920x1200 main monitor 1280x1024 for my second monitor
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Going to buy the parts at the end of May/beginning of June
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
I do want 6Gb/s SATA but I dont need to run more than one graphics card or have onboard RAID functionality.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Yes using Windows 7 64bit at the moment which can be transfered to this machine.
