I just replaced a dead AMD AM3 MB for a friend. Everything is working good but the CPU fan is running full speed 4400rpm. Is the problem because the new board has 4pin connecters and the cpu fan is a 3pin? Or is the new MB shot? I have the newest bios.

The case fan probably only operates at 2200rpm.

If you had the CPU fan running at 2200 RPM it would probably not be that loud either. If you can not get the motherboard to automatically adjust the speed on the 3 pin fan get a 4 pin pwm fan. Did you enable fan speed adjustment in the BIOS? Although it may not support 3 pin fans. You could just spend $20 to $30 and get a new HS/fan.

check in the bios, I have seen some that have an option to change cpu fan between 3pin and 4pin. also if cool n' quite is turned of that can cause the fan to run full.
