Hey there...
i had purchased the Maxtor Diamond 9 Plus 80GB SATA drive afew weeks ago... (OEM)...

and not used it, since the rest of my pc hadnt arrived yet...
so finally i installed and put everything together by today...
and i was installing Doom 3, when i noticed my hard disk clicking...

One of the reasons i bought the Maxtor hard disk was for its famous quite operations +fluid header....

I mean with my old IDE WD Caviar hard disk... after a year the clicking started....

I had very noisy fans with that setup, but after a year the sounds could be heard over the noise of the fans...

So with my new pc, i have put together THREE 80mm Vantec Stealth fans and ONE 92mm Vantec Stealth fan + ONE 120mm Antex Trispeed fan...

Their much quiter, but i can hear the clicking...
Is it normal... or what????
Thnx

Well i have a nice airflow going...
The cables are all nice and neat...
Have the proper SATA power cable connected to my HD (not molex to sata converter)
Defragmented with Diskeeper 9 Lite

Should i go with Western Digital?!?!

No, my WD clicked to death after 5 years of use. Go with Seagate, that's what I've heard.

and get your info off that drive asap!

WD or Seagate will be the only brands I look at, I'm running 3 WD WDJ800D's, no problems. I'm also running a 120 seagate I've had fro 4 years, no problems.

Ok i went back to them... they tested it... and said ok they will replace it...

Before i went there i took it to a friend of mine, he said that the sounds are normal with SATA... but no matter how i tried it, it didnt make a sound when i took it there :S

But anywho they said they'll give me another HD... but they were out of stock on 80GB SATA drives...

Which brand should i go for now... cause chances are they would replace the upcoming Hard Disk anymore...

Hitachi
WD
Seagate
Maxtor (DiamondPlus 9 or maybe Diamond 10) (they only had the 10 with 300GB maxtors, the rest were 120 and above, and probably 80gb)

What power supply are you using? Odds are, that's what's causing the problem.

Antec 400Watt SP2.0
it came preinstalled on my Antec TX-640B case...

It also has several sata power connectors...

I dont like maxtor either.

and off topic, but that PSU sucks.... any psu that comes in a case = junk.

Although not entirely on-topic, I'd like to put in a big, healthy, meaty vote for Samsung

Disclaimer*- I'm very tired, thus the use of the words "meaty" and "healthy" in reference to a vote/hard drive.

Do u know how much that PSU is worth outside the case?
(u can purchase it seperately)
