Two weeks ago one of my friends gave me a Mac for free. It is a Powermac G4 dual 450. The computer came without ram or an original CD rom. So after going to OWC.com i bought some ram, and i thought that I was good to go. Unfortunelty i cannot get it to install a Operating system (mac osx / yellow dog). Since it didnt have a cd drive i tried to boot from an external usb one i had and it worked! sort of. It tries to install osx but after the apple logo the spinning wheel keeps going and going and the screen houses a black text box where the prompt should be. It doesnt seem to get past that point.
PS: Should i see a list of hard drives installed when i press the option button on startup?
It just displays the arrows on each side.
Edit: is there a problem with installing from a usb cd drive? i have another mac, but no firewire cord
Thanks, Pbrane
