New Logitech Laser Mouse!

eh, screw the G5, I'm going for the G7.

:)

cordless, 2000dpi, and two switchable battery packs, so one is always charging.

logitech owns the mouse business, it would seem. :)

I still want that lovely blue glow that will eminate from the upcoming Razer Copperhead, though. And the G7 looks heavy. But yeah, Logitech is an innovator for sure. I have a MX 800 mouse/keyboard combo right now and it's been great for the most part. But I'm starting to see how the mouse is undercutting my gaming ability. If the G7 is much lighter than what they have now, then maybe I'll pay closer attention.

Plus Razer is coming out with a keyboard soon(?) (Tarantula?). The competition between these two companies is really ramping up.

Looks [H]awt to me. An adjustable weight, corded, laser mouse. The question I have is, what took so long?

Looks nice! Man I just bought the 518 too. I had to stop using my mx1000. After 6 months it was just too heavy for a heavy computer user. Good mouse if you use your computer casually. Too bad they didn't add the extra button on the side like they did with the 518.

Shit, that keyboard looks awesome. Imagine, being able to game while keeping an eye on your temps.

Looks cool, but I still don't see why people are too retarded to use the MX1000. Variety is always nice though.

Honestly as far as the dual batteries, my charging station was unplugged for a week and I never knew. My MX1000 still never ran out of battery power.

Doesn't the charging station need to be plugged in for the mouse to work?

Goddamnit, I just bought the Logitech LX3100 combo and the MX518.

Definitely hope they come out with a gaming combo pack of these.

I wonder why they only put one button on the side of the G5 instead of two. Would've been nicer to have two side buttons. I can handle losing the task switching button but that could've also been reassigned anyway.

One thing that is annoying is the loss of fast scroll up and down buttons in windows with the MX518 (probably will be same for G5). I prefer using the MX1000 when doing stuff other than games on the PC, but compared to the MX518, the MX1000 feels sluggish.

the price on that keyboard isnt bad either. same goes for the mouse. im definatly adding these to my collection.

That new gaming keyboard would be bitch'n for games like WoW. I've always wanted more dedicated buttons on my keybaord that were nicely setup for macro's.

Oh My God............ speechless. Look at Logitech busting out stuff for the hardcore gamer. I never even thought of half the things they are putting on the mice and keyboards. im getting the g7 1st day. I need to start saving up!

The keyboard is awesome. If you already have MX500, 510, 518 don't even waste your money on the G5 because you can't tell shit and it looks the same.

Yeah there is only a 400 dpi difference between the 518 and the G5 and you loose a button by going with the GF (2 buttons if you coun't the application switching button, which I never use). The other button on the side will be sorely missed though. Since it can be configured to use in a lot of games.

I'm gonna wait until the Copperhead and G5 go head to head. I wanna see all the ups and downs of each.

But my mx518 is doing quite fine for me so far.

And I still need to see what Razer's keyboard is going to look like before I buy anything. But that Logitech keyboard is seriously [H].

Wow I've been looking to upgrade my mx500 which i've had for 2 years... and the mx518 was too ugly to justify and this g5 is looking damn nice, just wish it still had that forward button on the side :( Might have to just buy another mx500 :D

that keyboard looks very nice! i think ill get it! but im still debation on gettin the razor copperhead or watever...my comp. has a blue theme and the blue LEDs would make a nice addition :p

The keyboard I'm interested in, though I'm an ergo keyboard user, so I don't know if I'd really like it. I'll prolly give it a try. The new mice though, meh. I like the mx1000 just fine.

Just noticed the lack of forward/back button on the side. Tsk, Tsk, that's a deal breaker for me.. I can't live without them now..

Does anyone know if razor mice have sidescrolling?

Wow!!! I didn't even look at the mice much because I am not interesting on it and now I just looked at it, it's missing one of the forward or backward button whatever you want to call it. That's a deffinitely a NO NO...

Ill probably buy one anyways to replace my aging mx700. i can get by without the forward button, it would be nice. bu since its situated in a way thats hard for me to reeach anywa i dont use it that much. But im loving that kb. thank god i saw this over at SA as i was looking for the best price on the mx3100 kb/mx1000 combo.

Yeah, my 518 is def ugly. Thank goodness I can't really see it when my hand's on it

And what the hell with the side button omission?! I'd had a hard enough time binding keys to my mouse, but now I'd have 1 less button! The pain!

i never lied Logitech. Ive always perfered Microsoft hardware. Logitech has always seemed cheap to me.

Really? I've always thought MS hardware felt cheap. For my work laptop i use an older MS optical intellimouse explorer and the plastic of it makes sounds if you push down on it too hard. Never had that problem w/ my mx1000

wtf?

"* For Windows® 9x and ME users only, the Logitech® SetPoint™ software will limit the report rate to 125 reports/second."

So it can poll at 500 but we only get 125?

Whats this talk about a Razor keyboard? Are there pics anywhere?

No pics yet. Just talk. Supposedly they showed it to some people "by appointment only" at E3. It's codename so far is "Tarantula." Now you know as much as I do.

I was almost gonna get a Saitek Eclipse to go along with my Plasma LE but now I think I may hold off and see what this Tarantula looks like.

Keyboard looks interesting. It could partially displace the Nostromo n52 with the macros. Of course, with no x64 support my Nostromo still needs some love.

Here's what Gamespot has on it:

Razer has been providing high-quality mice for a number of years, but the Tarantula marks its first foray into the keyboarding world. The Tarantula sports zero acoustic tactile response keys, jog dials, and six programmable profiles. Ambient lighting will give the Tarantula a slight glow. Razer will release the Tarantula in time for the holiday season with an estimated retail price of $100.

There's also a small picture, but I think it's just a generic photo to put with the article. Razer wasn't allowing so much as a peek at this thing.

I agree on both points :D . I can't wait to see the copperhead in action... IMO they have Logitech beat, especially since Logitech keeps insisting on wireless performance mice even though the bandwidth limits their effective resolution. The copperhead will definitely be my next purchase, even though I'm using a diamondback right now... it will have better button placement and better geometry, not to mention its higher resolution.

This is always the funniest comment to me. People who complain that a mouse that weighs less than a pound or so is too heavy. Is your mouse pad mounted vertically on the wall? Do you like to do curls between frags with your mouse? Or maybe you weigh 8 pounds and have pencil thin arms. Personally I have a MX1000 and a fUnc1030, I can move my mouse with the sleightist of effort, and never have I gotten tired even after playing CS all day long.

Now maybe you just dont like the feel of the extra weight, but that doesn't make the mouse "too heavy for a heavy computer user", it simply means "I dont like mice that have some weight to them"

ON TOPIC :

I am looking forward to the copperhead more, I love my MX1000 and I dont need another logitech mouse to replace it, besides I like the shape of the MX1000 better than the shape of most other logitech mice (MX518, G5, G7, MX700 etc...)

actually if you read the logitech press release both the corded and cordless versions will have 2000dpi resolutions, and will both poll at the full 500/s usb2 is capable of.

does anyone know when the Cooperhead will be in stores or how much it will cost?

copperhead will cost $80 which is pretty steep for a mouse. I just went ahead and bought a diamondback because i can't justify spending that much on a mouse.

the new logitech keyboard looks nice but is also way too expensive. Unless they cut a combo or some deals i won't be getting it. i hope razer's keyboard will be cheap but looking at copperhead pricing, it's doubtful.

Actually that price is right around the norm for a high quality "gaming mouse". And while it may seem high to you, the build quality and the extra little features here and there make it a lot more than a normal mouse. Besides. you spend so much money on the internals of your computer, why not make the way you interact with those high quality parts better as well? You might as well still be using a ball mouse.

I am not suggesting that you should plop down 80$ on a mouse when a 25$ optical serves you just fine. I am just showing you why some people believe that to be a justified price.

As for the keyboard...backlighted keys, programmable macro keys, lcd display....this is not your average 20$ keyboard either. It has a lot of features that do not come cheap. The price is what it is, either you want the extra features and pay for it, or you dont want them and you dont...it doesn't make it TOO expensive, simply makes it not for you.
