Would be curious how the chemicals they use to give it a scent could impact the quality or introduce potential issues, like corrosion or something..

Can you smell it outside the case when it heats up? Could be like a candle/wax warmer if so. I don't think I'd want something where I didn't have control over when I smelled it or not, though.

I doubt it would last long.
 
Due to the food industry poisoning people for their medical industry buddies, I would be more concerned about the toxic chemical properties of the scent released.
