I have been trying to pick a new mobo i have it down to the asus p6t or the msi x58 plat. I would like the multi video card support of the asus. But I have been burned by them in the past with their website support. They also only support 12 gb of ram. Comparitvely the msi supports 24 gb of ram but only 1 series of video card. Please help me with my decisions.

What exactly will you be doing that requires 24GB? The ASUS is the better of the two motherboards.

The ASUS P6T hands down. The MSI Eclipse was just "meh" generally speaking. It was an ok board but it didn't impress.

I watched newegg and grabed and P6T open box for $167 last week. It came as a bare board with nothing else but with a P6T you dont get much else anyway.

I just had a friend buy a P6T deluxe open box right after and he got EVERYTHING in the retail box. for $200 (pissed me off!!! damn his good luck)

If i were to buy again I might buy the deluxe for the 12 phase power. Should have better stability and longiveity (debatable). Either way the P6T plain or deluxe is hard to beat.

16+2 phase you mean right? ;)

False. The OP is considering 2 boards in the $240 price range.

I just bought my eVGA x58 at MicroCenter on sale for $229. So, double false to you good sir, at that price, you can't beat the eVGA. Awesome board with an amazing feature set and support.

I think the P6T is a better board, but I would certainly pick the EVGA X58 3X SLI over the MSI Eclipse or X58 Platinum.

Is it still on sale? No. So why are you talking about the past and how does that help the OP? ;)

Fortunately, nobody ever knows what you mean. If you re-read your post, you'll see that you've actually recommended an E***!

damn right. wouldnt recommend anything else but an evga. especially not an or a .

but you other guys know what i mean.

I had a bad experience with an evga mobo in the past. I love their video cards though.

The trolling is getting old vanilla_guerilla

i am extremely sorry about that. may i suggest that you read something else?

and to the other "person", if someone asks for a rec, i will rec whatever i feel like, whether you agree with it or not. probably, especially if you dont agree with it.

The problem most people have is that "you" never give reasons for what "you" suggest. Instead, "your" posts are often just bashing companies other than **** and are worthless posts. If you're not going to contribute anything positive, why post at all?

most people dont have a problem. "you" have a problem. so if you are not going to contribute anything positive or on topic, why post at all? i try to give the guy a rec, and i get bitchy little comments from you, cupcake. sorry i dont agree with what you insist that the guy buy, but thats the way it goes.

It's mostly because all of your responses look like this: "evga 3x sli. the other sh*t you are looking at are gigabyte and asus!!!"

All your posts seem to do are bash companies other than evga and don't provide any explanation whatsoever for your so-called recommendation.

I agree, some argumentation/documentation as to why would help at lot.

Catfight aside, I don't think it really matters on which higher end mobo you go with. I, like most people, was really turned off by the rise of the $300 mobo. However, in this class (x58) I now see that you really do get more for your money with the top tier boards.

imo, spend the extra few bucks and be satisfied that you have a quality board that will last you a while. Lifetime warranty on eVGA boards is what swayed me. Whatever floats your boat.

X58 is top of the line...and thus costs....like always.
P55(Core i5, socket 1156) is going to be mainstream...this can't still be news these days?

Well so far I've seen two different types of X58 boards. I'm not talking about cost either. There are good boards and mediocre ones. I've yet to run into a true piece of shit, even though I've seen a couple I don't like. Within the two groups, there are less expensive, and more expensive boards. So cost doesn't even factor into it. The cost difference really only covers the features of the board. Some have more than others and the ones with more features command a higher price.

In any case, my picks are these:

ASUS P6T
ASUS P6T Deluxe
ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution (I almost purchased this one myself.)
ASUS Rampage II Extreme (I almost purchased this one myself.)

GA-EX58-UD3R
GA-EX58-UD5
GA-EX58-Extreme (Not really worth it over the cost of the GA-EX58-UD5)

EVGA X58 3X SLI Classified (w/wo nForce 200 MCP) (Bought the nForce 200 MCP version.)

All the boards that I have worked with, or the [H] has reviewed thus far above, are all great boards. Any of them are worth your hard earned dollars. They all represent a solid, quality computing experience and were reliable in our testing. The feature set and price are variable as the list is long. In any case I'm comfortable recommending all of the above.

Mediocre Boards:

EVGA X58 3X SLI
Foxconn Blood Rage
MSI Eclipse SLI

Even the boards I didn't really like weren't really all that bad. Most of my issues were layout related, or were due to extremely minor problems that occured during testing. I wouldn't say they aren't worth your money, but in my experience you can do better for the money. Though I've seen some real deals on the EVGA X58 3X SLI which make it more attractive given the price break and solid feature set.

WTF are you talking about? Where did the OP ever mention he was looking at i5? I said catfight aside, because I wanted to give the OP my thoughts on helping him decide on which board to get, which coincidentally is the actual point of this thread. Weird, huh? Your bickering in this thread is self serving and frankly rude to the OP, hence why I dismissed it outright.

Dan, I have pretty much the exact same feelings on all the aforementioned boards, the one exception is the eVGA X58. I sold my P6T to a friend in need, and picked up this eVGA on a whim and it has been a rock solid, delightful experience.

The one I tested just had a couple of quirks. Nothing huge, but it did damage my overall impression of the board. On the other hand the EVGA X58 3X SLI Classified has left a great impression on me. It has been solid and trouble free from the first moment I powered it on.
